Jason & Bruce are two amazing down to earth locals with a passion for fishing. They really know what they are doing and are great guys to spend time with on a charter. The gear they have on the boat is top of the line, and they were great in offering out-of-towners lessons on how to catch fish in the waters off Victoria. Highly recommend, both on a personal and professional level!

Fortunately for us, we did hook up! We got ourselves a 48” 50lb halibut! Not to mention a variation of a great white shark & Pacific Cod to boot!

I want to start out by saying how impressed I am at the professionality of Jay and Bruce. These two guys are absolutely incredible if you are going to the greater Victoria area I highly recommend booking a fishing charter through the rod father fishing and outdoors adventures.we start the day at location you’ll be given upon booking. Absolutely stunning; you’ll meet the fellas the day of at 6am. When me and my girlfriend first met them at the marina, we looked at eachother and had the look of “these guys are gunna be fun”. First thing Jay did was help Emma onto the boat (who says chivalry is dead) and I onto the boat; Bruce gave us a life preserver and they immediately showed us how to properly don and inflate the lifejackets and a safety talk of what to do in the case of an emergency and worst case scenario. While Jay completed his safety check. We were off. Not even 10 minutes on to the boat ride we stopped and a set of crab pot in the water. Being very mindful of where the commercial guys pots were. I respected that. They knew what they were doing. Where they were going and how they were going about it. No messing around. Boat was very clean and organized too I might mention. They also got a brand new Yamaha 150 4 Stoke outboard motor so you can actually here yourself think and talk. It’s nice. They dropped anchor explain everything they were doing and even let me help them. Learn alot that day. Not 2 minutes after the anchor was on bottom so was the bait. Hammered a skate right First thing (stingray type thing) but what I was there for was a halibut I had messaged Jay saying I was eager to have my girlfriend reel in a halibut a week prior. 845ish. BOOM halibut on. They were so collected. Calm and clear with what to do(I’ve been In a few deep-sea charters, fish on is chaos) Bruce and Jay. Just true sportsmen man. I didn’t want it to end. We got the 83’ halibut Landed and bled. We chat and tell story’s for another while when the clock rolls around and its time to head in. Got one rod in and out away and just as we start reeling in the last of bottom. Jay gets a hit and the fish spits it out. But our times up I thought. NOPE these 2 didn’t care about the time. They cared about another fish for us. They reeled in. Re baited and back down 300 feet to bottom. Boom dogfish on! We land it and the fish swallowed that hook good. Bruce and Jayson handed that fish with just care and finesse. It swam away unharmed. Me or you tired that we would have a dead fish..class act you guys. Seriously. I’ve never been on such a professional comfortable charter. Don’t think about it. Book these guys. You will be very pleased with memories for life. Remember fishing is called fishing. NOT CATCHING. A catch is not a guarantee with any charter. Be thankful you had a good day on the water with your family and friends even if you didn’t catch something. Jay and Bruce were absolutely first class on this charter, they are both incredibly friendly and down to earth guys. They’re both experts in fishing and show a true love for the sport. They brought a lot of excitement and fun to our trip and showed myself and my in-laws who haven’t been salmon fishing before a great time on the water.

I can’t say enough good things about Jay and Bruce, but I’ll try to describe the whole thing to you.

We start early, but it’s so worth it. By 6 am, I had caught a beautiful Chinook salmon that would have made all the other fishermen on the water jealous.

The gear and supplies is well-maintained and high-quality. They know their stuff, and it shows in the equipment they use and how they care for it.

Their knowledge is also second to none. They were willing to explain any detail I asked about, and then some, so that I had fun and learned a lot too.

Finally, they were so much fun. Fishing is an exciting hobby, but fishing with the Rodfathers is a whole new level. They are just as excited for you to catch something as you are (if not more) and they make you feel like a rockstar for reeling a fish in.
