Keto was our driver and part of the crew. The crew did a fabulous job of trying to move to different locations for a better fishing experience. The fishing was mediocre, but not because of the efforts of the crew. I highly recommend this company.

Took a half day AM trip with Captain Tito and First Mate Greg. Trip started with Greg diving for our bait, live conch. On the way out to where the fish were biting, Captain Tito stopped at Shark Ray Alley so we could view the nurse sharks from the boat. All four of us caught fish and our First Mate cleaned and bagged them for us to have prepared later that night. Couldn’t have asked for a better day on the water. Highly recommend!

HI. When it comes to deepsea fishing usually customers take turns either by hour or by fish. We had 5 trolling rods on board. That is the maximum amount of rods that we can troll at the same time. It is true that it was 6 of you, and we only had 5 trolling rods. But that is all we can troll at the same time anyway.

This was my first trip to Belize, but I have been offshore fishing for over 60 years. I have fished mostly on the east coast of the US, but also many trips to Florida, Bahamas,Costa Rica, Isla Mujeres, Panama and others. I have logged between 800 and 1000 days ocean fishing in blue water. Of these trips, I would guess that approx. 150 to 175 were charter trips. Some make-up charters, and some where I had chartered the whole boat. Most of my fishing being out of Oregan Inlet North Carolina When I called and spoke with the owner of Freedom Tours, I asked about the fishing but was most concerned about the weather as it had been blowing for several days. He said we could expect a much better day for our trip. His son was our captain and picked us up at our dock where we were staying. It was blowing, but the mate and captain both said crossing the reef would be rough, but once out it would be fine. I was very doubtful of their prediction of the conditions we would find. But again this was my first trip in these waters.
Crossing the reef we had according to both the captain and mate 12’ to 15’ breakers. The 32’ boat pounded very hard and with a whole lot of breaking water slamming VERY hard into the windshield and a lot going completely over the boat. I have crossed many rough bars in my life, so I knew that it would not be a cake walk. But once we got well clear of the reef, the waves obviously were of more duration but were also bigger in size. 15’ to 18’ according to both captain and mate and I would agree with their estimates. The small boat could handle it all but when we could not steer off of a breaking wave it again put the bow well into the wave. It was very, very rough. They set out one flat line,
but the mate had much difficulty in maneuvering in the cockpit. After some time, he was able to get 2 riggers and the 2 flat lines set. It was impossible to stand, so all 4 of us in the charter stayed seated.
I feel that these conditions were too rough for this 32’ boat to fish safely. I know how the charter works, you turn the boat around you pay- the captain turns the boat around no pay. No other boats out that day except another boat from Freedom Tours on a half day charter. We think they they called it and went in, we did not. Approx. noon the weather laid down a very little, but enough to allow us to move from our seat to the fighting chair, while holding on tight to something. Still a very rough day.
My feelings are that the owner miss led us on the most recent quality of what was being caught. The conditions were such that the trip should have been canceled by management.
I did not want to write a negative review, but this is what happened. I included
my whole story, I am obviously not new to this sport.
My overall opinion of Belize is that it is a beautiful county, and the people were wonderful. I will return, and I will fish it again. By the way, we had several hits but only got 2 barracuda, came in at 3 PM.

Well first of all I am sorry you did not have a pleasant trip up to your expectations. I did check the weather report the day prior to that trip and it called for favorable conditions. Sadly to say the weather report is not always correct and yes it was choppy that day. My boys always try their best to catch you fish and I have to agree that that specific day was not the best. We have landed lots of quality fish on prior trips. We are known for that!
I just wished you had told the captain to turn around and bring you back if you were not enjoying it. Cause one thing we don’t do is force customers to stay on the boat if they are not happy. I would have certainly refund you your money. We always try to do the right thing to make customers happy.
My sincere apologies and if you ever make it down here again we can make it better for you. Just give me a call.

They picked us up right in front of our quaint resort, Turtle Cove, which I highly recommend. Our guide, Carlos, was very nice and knowledgeable about the fish. He did put us on fish. We caught about 8 snapper and a dozen bonefish. Be prepared to provide your own lunch. We arrived in Belize after stores had closed and our charter was the next morning. Carlos was kind enough to stop on our way out in the morning so we could get lunch. The one negative issue we had was the gear was in terrible condition. It was supposed to be a flyfishing trip for 2. They only supplied 1 fly rod and the fly line coating was wore off every couple inches. You really couldn’t cast very far. I had asked them to have spinning rods too just in case it was too windy, which they did, but again the gear was not in good condition. We enjoyed Carlos’ company and knowledge but would not go again unless we knew he had new equipment.

HI Well first of all I am glad that you caught fish! 12 bones and about half a dozen snappers is actually considered a good here!
I have to apologize for the Fly reel since my captain mistakenly took the old one that the line needed changing. I do have new reels. On fly fishing trips usually only one angler can fish at the same time . They take turns. My spinning is brand new! Just bought over Christmas. Shimano 4000 in good condition. So I do not understand why it was not working. The captain assures me there was no problem with it. Lunch is not included on my fly fishing trips. That you can confirm on your fishing contract.

The boat arrived at our hotel early. We were fishing in just a few minutes. Crew was the best. They made sure we knew the proper technique and we quickly started to catch.
Grouper, snapper, yellow tail, barracuda, trigger fish and a couple of nurse sharks.
We kept some that the crew cleaned and gave them the balance.
It was a great day that flew by!

The crew was very knowledgeable and communicative. i had contacted Captain Hilly a couple of weeks prior to our vacation. He was very quick to respond and inform me about my reservation. I told him that we were staying in a secluded airbnb on San Pedro. He informed me that his taxi knew where we were and would be picking us up. I was a little apprehensive but his taxi driver found us without any trouble and on time. Once we arrived we were introduced to our crew, Carlos and Ramito. Each one of these guys had an insurmountable amount of information about the fishing in San Pedro and it showed. Within the first 15 minutes fishing, we had hooked a Barracuda. Unfortunately, it got away as I was reeling it in. But that wasn’t even the high point of the trip.
The highlight of the trip was when we hooked a Sailfish. I didn’t think we would hook one of these during this trip but we did! I managed to bring it on board after 15 minutes of fighting with it. Capt. Lara (Hilly-Boo) stopped by our condo the day before the trip to give us some pointers on the do’s and don’ts for the trip. Like taking dramamine the night before and the morning of the trip. Worked for everyone. ( Had a party of four) with the exception of one who has never been on the water period. He was sick for a short spell and then he was good.
We caught some really nice wahoo and lost a sailfish right at the boat. And of course caught a couple barricuda. We (my wife) decided to end the trip a little earlier than the 8 hours. The fish were cleaned as to my request.
The trip was awesome. Seas were a little rough but not bad.
Crew was fantastic. Proffesional in every way you can imagine. We actually fished with Capt. Lara’s son who might be young but he is very knowledgeable with not only his boat but his crew as well.

First and foremost, I did want to say that we did catch some fantastic Mahi Mahi and Barracudas. The battles were awesome! I wanted to mention that the captain himself, was there to pick us up from the hotel and greet us. However, he did not join us for the tour and left his sons to take us out. I wished that this was made clear before booking the service. The boat ride was very rocky and caused all of us to be a little nauseous. My cousin, who wanted to go on the trip the most, got really sick and wasn’t able to enjoy the the experience at all. The crew on the boat were nice, but there was very little interaction with us. They did seem to know what they were doing. As a whole, the experience was fine, but the for the money, I have had much better times out deep sea fishing.

i can honestly say that yes, that day it was quite choppy, but that is something i cannot control. my son has been fishing with me for 15 years and is a licensed captain already and he knows what he is doing. and as they say, we did put them on to fish, which they enjoyed. and i hate saying this, but hangovers and fishing does not work! only for chumming! and that is part of the big reason why they got sick. stay off the booze the day before u go fishing! especially deepsea. just a little advice to anyone that wants to do deepsea. thanks for the review. appreciate your comments.

Booked the trip months in advance. A few days prior got an email moving our pick up time from 7am to 8am. No problem. Got to our dock at 7:30. waited. waited. waited tell 9am. Never showed. Both myself and the Grand Caribe tried to reach them. No one answered the phone. Sent email and got a reply at the end of the day. The captain said the seas were to rough(4-5’) so he just blew us off. He didn’t try to take us to the reef or any other options, just didn’t show. So lost the day. Not very professional in my opinion.

The reason the trip did not go through , is because the weather was very unfavorable! I did leave a message at the hotel, but it was not delivered! The seas were 8 to 10 foot swells! There was no way that trip was going to happen! I did get to them later that day and tried to reschedule depending on the weather but they did not want . I apologize for the misunderstanding !

There were 6 in our party and comprised of 2 adults and 4 kids. We had an excellent trip catching 3 barracudas and a lot of tuna. We were trying for a marlin, however, they did not cooperate. The boat gave us plenty of room and was very clean. The captain and mate were very friendly and I could not have asked for more. Our experience was great and we can’t wait to go back next year.

Captain Hilly Boo’s crew, Capt. Cord and first mate Byron were amazing putting us on fish in less than 30 minutes into the trip, we had 10 Barracuda, a Wahoo and 7 Dorado/Mahi/Dolphin (not sure why this fish has three names!?!) within four hours of the trip. They picked us up at our Condo’s pier, which made it really nice. They fileted the fish for us at the end of the trip. It only took about 20 minutes to get to the fish from our pier, this was impressive!!! Where we fish off shore it takes over an hour and a half or more. Can’t say enough good things about this fishing experience. We will definitely use them on our next trip to Belize!!! Oh, and take your fish to Carambas, they cook it up just right!!! There are several places on the Island that will cook your catch though. Nothing better than fresh cooked fish!!! That’s all!

We were picked up by the captain and one crew member for the four of us from the resort dock on time. We caught four yellow snappers within the first 25 mins and caught nothing more there after, no matter how many areas we changed into. The reels they used along with sardines baits could only handle catching small fish, nothing like the pics listed online. So perhaps you can specify to have them bring larger reels in case you plan on catching big fish. However, they cut the fish in fillets and whatever shape we requested such as whole fish for some fried fish that fish was the best we have ever tasted, a restaurant in town cooked it for us and surprised us with a variety of flavors. All restaurants are open to the idea of being your own fish and charge an average of $17 USD to cook it.

thanks for your honest review. the fishing here sometimes can be really great, but sometimes it also can be very slow! there are so many factors that can affect it. the tides, the moon, time of the day, weather conditions, etc. anyway, i am glad that al least u got to catch a few fish and got to eat them as well. and as for reef fishing, we mostly go for snappers and good eating fish, which average a couple of pounds, so that is why we use light tackle so u can enjoy reeling in the fish. but i assure u that my captains and mates always try hard and give their best. i also apppreciate your honest comments. thanks and maybe next time, we will go for the big ones. maybe deepsea fishing would be something more fun for u. wahoo, tuna, kingfish, marlin or sailfish. the big ones!

everything was “OK”. The, weather was a little bad “rough” seas. But, we had a good time. Captain & mate, worked “very hard”! They had to check the baits quite often, due to the “vast amount of weeds” on top of water. However, I would have recommended they actually change the baits, as well. I don’t believe there were very many boats out that day. So, maybe it was one of those “fishing” days, not “catching” days. But, still:thanks, for the opportunity to go out

hi yes that is true, we have had a lot of problems with the tons of seaweed that has been drifting for the past 6 months, something that i have never seen in my whole life time. and i was born and raised here and fishing all my life. it has been bringing some dorado, but the fishing has been up and down lately because of the many factors that can affect a day of fishing. seaweed the worst one at the moment, tides, moon and weather. but regardless of all these factors, i assure u that my crew always tries their best in catching fish for the customers. after all that is our livelyhood. but as we know that is why it is called fishing and not catching! lol! and some days are just better than others. but thanks for yoour comment

We had a great time fishing with Hilly and his help. We fished both inshore/reef and offshore and caught fish every day. The offshore action was non-stop with dorado and barracuda keeping the action going all day. The captain and mate showed a lot of experience and were very enjoyable to be on a boat with. We learned a lot with these guys! Great time!
