I am a Southern California native and have been an avid angler since the age of 3. Dana Point is rated one of the best fishing spots in Southern California, with only about a 5-minute voyage to get out of the harbor and into the fishing spots. When I had boats in Huntington and Newport, it took me almost an hour to get out of the harbor. I own a fast boat in a small harbor which means more fishing time for you. I purchased a couple of boats and bought a house across the street to follow my dream job – fishing!

Slow day - 1st trip had fun - caught Pacific Makeral Second trip got into a nice size Mako Shark and it snapped the line with its tail on a jumping leap. I spoke to another good friend and charter captain that went out to the same spits we frequent and he said that after our vessels left the spot the Bass and Barrracuda bite went crazy good. Timing, timing, timing We communicate with other independent charter captains all day every day

Had an afternoon 2 hr that targeted sharks without any luck. We started the charter fishing for Pacific Makeral to use as Shark Bait. We landed four nice Makeral in about 10 minutes then set off for Sharks. The day before we lost a big Thresher Shark and the water was 62 degrees. Today the water is 67.25 degrees. The water got cold last week due to a cold front wind storm that hit us from up north. The local bite slowed considerably but water temps are gaining and the season should be back to normal any day.

Took Father Sons on a quick 2 hour. We trolled for 45 minutes and nailed 4 Pacific Makeral that we were going to use for shark bait but instead we toured the coast and hung out with hundreds of dolpins- two types and lots of different pods. Our 47 Jersey "S.S.TARTAR SAUCE" landed a Mako Shark Today.
