We booked the half-day fishing trip with Captain Mendez and we asked for bottom fishing.
We had a great fishing trip and he brought us to at least 10 different spots for fishing. Within a relatively short amount of time we caught around 20 fish, mostly snapper and grouper.
The captain and crew worked hard to get us fish and were friendly.
We really enjoyed our fishing trip with Captain Mendez and would highly recommend him for a fishing trip.

No words can accurately describe how much fun we had. We saw flying fish, so many pink speckled dolphin, sea turtles, a venomous snake, and manta rays doing flips in the air. If those things weren’t enough, we also slayed the mahi. There were two of us fishing and after a few hours of searching, we caught three Mahi Mahi, two of which we got in the boat. Guessing each was easily 30+ pounds. Talk about excitement! It was pure chaos reeling these two in together at the same time! 🤣😅 ❤️ This was all off shore maybe 10-20 miles. Went inshore and got a mackrel. The views were all awesome.
We reserved the captain’s larger boat for a full day. I reserved this crew because I knew I was talking directly to the captain that had the boat we were going to fish on.
They picked us up on the Playa Hermosa beach in the morning. It had a private toilet. Fresh pineapple and some tasty lunch sandwiches were also served. Some beer, soda, water was provided. We brought beer to toss into their ice chest as well. The boat was clean, the equipment was great.
The deck hand (Roberto I believe) did a spectacular job changing out lines and bait as we worked around the water.
At the end we took what we wanted to cook up for fillets at our Airbnb and left the crew with the remaining. They were very appreciative.
Captain Juan was a lot of fun and was very accommodating. We were able to do everything we wanted. I suggest making sure you know what you want to fish before you get out there. Be ready for rough waters if you get motion sickness and take some medication if you do. Enjoy the experience. We loved it!

We (party of 5) chartered an eight 8 hr trip with Capt. Mendez. We caught 1 dorado (mahi mahi) and 1 very large rooster fish. We also hooked 1 sailfish that gave an acrobatic show for 30 seconds before spitting the hook. Two other dorado bit short but were not hooked. Capt Mendez is a great host and fishing guide. We discussed a mutually agreeable fishing plan at the beginning of the trip, relying on the Capt’s experience of what worked and was appropriate. Beverages and pineapple snacks were provided. We booked the larger boat as it had a bathroom and we felt that was necessary for the 8 hour trip.
It rained the first 6 hours so a raincoat is a good idea, though seating is covered by a canvas top the sides are open.
The technique was trolling live bait and the boat did not appear to be set up for casting or jigging techniques. Keep that in mind if you prefer other modes of fishing.
You embark the boat from the beach and you will take perhaps 3 or 4 steps in water up to mid calf to reach the boat. Be prepared to get your feet wet.

Captain Mendez and crew were great!  We booked and afternoon fishing trip which we haven’t done before. My son caught an amazing Rooster fish!  After that we focused on a little bottom fishing and we’re busy catching fish the rest of the day!  We enjoyed fresh snacks, drinks and an incredible sunset we won’t soon forget.  The captain and crew went out of their way to make sure we had a trip to remember!

Had a good trip out on a solo trip caught probably 10 fish total none of the big sportfish were biting, but that’s fishing. waves picked up and we got wet on the way back in but that didn’t stop us from trying to get a rooster even giving me extra time to try and get one we hooked a big GT which ended the trip with high fives and smiles can’t expect a trophy every trip all in all good experience
