Marco knows the waters off Fajardo like the back go his hand.  He was able to guide us to catch 10 or 11 different species of fish.  We took the 4 hour trip because I didn’t want to burn out my wife and though I could have fished all day, 4 hours felt like a full morning.  We were fishing by 7:15 am and didn’t pull our lines out of the water until 10:40.  We brought fish home to eat and also had the opportunity to catch tarpon - though we weren’t able to land one.  Marco and his mate, Donavan were both extremely hospitable.  I personally would fish with these guys again without considering any other option.

Captain Marcos and his crew were great! I told him ahead of time that I wanted my wife to catch most of the fish and he made sure that happened! We had been skunked on the last 2 fishing charters I booked on previous trips with other captains, so it was important to me that this trip be fruitful regardless of the conditions. He purposely set her up with a slightly different rig than mine using the same bait and she pulled in fish after fish. Not to mention we got to watch them catch our bait and he helped me catch a 60 pound tarpon to start the morning! He is super knowledgable about the ocean and is constantly educating you on the fish and your surroundings. His passion for his craft truly shows. It was a laid back, easy, and productive fishing day for a lower cost than others. You don’t spend any time at all traveling to your fishing spot so you’re fishing almost the full time of the trip as well. 10/10 would recommend.

I’ve fished with many guides all over and Captain Marcos is one of the better ones. I did both a snapper trip with my daughter (7 years old) and a tarpon trip for just me.

Marcos is a marine biologist who quietly takes a scientific approach to locating fish and putting you on them. He sits down at the beginning and makes sure he knows what you want out of the trip, and let’s you know what your role will be as part of the team. He will check in with you and make sure you (and kids) are having a good time. He comes prepared with cold drinks.

You can tell He is a consumate professional by the way he interacts with clients and kids, how he is always mentoring his mate, and doing so with kindness. He also shows a great love and appreciation for the wonderful fishery he is a part of. He’s happy to explain the conditions he’s looking for, or the research studies and surveys he helps with.

He’s not the guide that’s going to drop the hammer and blast across the bay to squeeze every second of opportunity out of the trip. But he won’t waste time on tactics that are unproductive, will take a nice calm cruise to the next spot to check where he’s recently seen fish, and will do what’s necessary to set you up for success.

We fished a four-hour morning trip with Marcos and his mate Donovan. Both were great at their craft and great communicators (with us in English). Marcos is a guide who loves fishing and loves teaching just as much. He asked good questions to know what experience we were coming with. The boat and all the gear was the best I’ve had on a charter. We mostly targeted pelagics with flutter jigs. We wanted hands on, active fishing, and that’s what we did. Marcos had also caught live bait before we arrived that morning, which caught us our biggest fish, a king mackerel over 40 pounds. I suggest reaching out to 787 a few days before for some tips to avoid seasickness. We didn’t, and despite one of the group having some trouble, we landed five fish, including the beast of a king. All of this was on light tackle spinning rods. My forearms and shoulders were burning and it was awesome! Marcos expertly cleaned the right amount of our catch for us. We had an epic meal back at our vacation rental. I highly recommend fishing with 787!

I booked 787 on a quick trip to the island. It was initially only supposed to be four of us, but another friend wanted to join. Captain Marcos was very accommodating and allowed my other friend to come along. Captain was very knowledgeable about the fishing area and fish in general. He set us up, put us where the fish were and let us do our thing. Advising us here and there where needed.  We didn’t catch a lot of fish, but that was no fault of the Captain’s. The highlight was my sister-in-law hooking a beautiful 25lb crevalle jack, which we took pics with and safely released. Also, my wife hooked a 50lb tarpon but lost it on the reel in. I recommend 787 Fishing and will definitely be fishing with Captain Marcos when I return to the island.
