Winter Springs (Chinook) are Biting in Nanaimo. Reel Time Fishing Charters & Marine Tours has started the year off with some great fishing. This past weekend on two separate occassions, we managed to find some bait and along with it, some nice winter springs. The conditions may be a little chilly but the fish are in and active. With a limit of 2 salmon per person per day until the first of April, the next few months could provide a great opportunity to get out there and experience the thrill of hooking one of these good looking, good eating and good fighting fish. After two amazing months in Ucluelet, Reel Time Fishing Charters is back in Nanaimo where Chinook salmon fishing continues to be stellar. This morning's 4 hour charter produced 3 keepers and many just under that were released. This run of fish should continue for the next several weeks. A record catch! Today we landed and released over 50 Chinook salmon on a five hour charter. I have never seen fishing like this in Nanaimo waters. In fact it's been like this we over the past few weeks. It certainly makes you wonder about the fishery closure. Anyways the fishing and weather continue to be phenomenal so consider taking a day out on the water. Chances are you wouldn't be disappointed ?

In another week or so, Chinook Salmon fishing in and around the waters of Nanaimo should be at its best. These fish usually begin to show around the second week of April with the run usually at its strongest during the last two weeks of April and the first week of May. Chinook salmon caught during this time are usually between the 8 lb to 12 lb range. However, it is not unusual to see fish in the high teens, even low twenties caught during this time. Fishing during the latter part of May and into June is still productive and usually offers larger fish. In fact, last year (2018), our Chinook fishery lasted well into the latter part of July. So, if you are looking to have some fishing fun in Nanaimo this spring or summer, look us up. Reel Time Fishing Charters offers convenient moorage, top notch vessel and fishing gear, a variety of different fishing packages and a captain who enjoys his guests as much as he does the water and fish.

With the dawning of a new year, Reel Time Fishing Charters is once again open for the business of good times and good fishing in the Harbor City of Nanaimo. If 2019 turns out to be anything like the past 3 years, get ready to experience some exhilarating moments on the water. Chinook salmon are beginning to show up in the shallows near Pipers Lagoon and Neck Point making these early winter trips very scenic. Prawning has been reported to be very good too. As the season progresses, greater numbers of fish and better size should begin to appear in late April and early May. Check out our fishing packages and book a trip with us.
