As the winter temperatures have bottomed out, the shift to warmer water temperatures has begun. This means everything is starting to eat, the winter species (Pompano, sheepshead) are starting to school up and chew,at the same time the year round species (redfish, snook, trout ) are coming out of winter water temp shock. This means everything is in the bay and hungry!!!

With negative tides and cool water temps in the mornings this time of year the fish don't want to work hard for a meal. This means slowing all presentations of baits down to a crawl,,painfully slow ,,when my clients think they're going as slow as they can I'll tell them to cut that speed in half. Low tides =slow Low temperatures =slow Low pressure (cold front)=slow.

With direct hits from 2 major hurricanes in our rear view mirror, the fishing has finally gotten back to where it should be this time of year. Usually, "Red October " is when the redfish school up and start chewing heavily, but with the bay stirred up by Helen and Milton, the schooling was delayed. Finally, my favorite time of year is here!!! All of us local charter captains are hurting financially, so please hit your favorite guide up and enjoy a great day of fantastic fishing!!

Good trip under difficult conditions
