Being in the outdoors has always been a passion of Captain Caylin. From a kid fishing the rivers and tributaries of Virginia and North Carolina with his dad, he came to be a fishing guide. He's developed a love for the pursuit of that 'Big One' that stories are made of. While the catch is always an important bonus, the time spent with family and friends making memories, laughing, and enjoying time away from the world is what it's all about. The captain became a fishing guide 10 years ago to help people achieve just that. There's something magical about watching the sunrise over a fog-covered stream, river, or lake that makes a person feel alive.

    Didn’t catch anything - 6 hours

    Half day Inshore fishing2 adults

Overall we have had better experiences. Our first reservation was cancelled 2 weeks before our trip from quite a distance. We booked another boat and captain that was more expensive and longer excursion. We caught some bait fish at the beginning but caught no fish in 6 hours. We didn’t know if we used the wrong bait or wrong spots. For the price we felt like some kind of discount was probably realistic for catching no fish. Also, the captain only took cash or Venmo which fortunately I had although the site said we could use Visa or Mastercard. It was very disappointing for my teenage son who had been looking forward to this trip for months!

    Response from Captain

first let me say thanks for the opportunity and im sorry it worked out the way it did. however i think some context is important here. I recommended we fish a different area. I expressed my concern on where you wanted to go out of and that it would be tough. you didn’t want to drive the additional 30 min. by boat it would have been an hour. i was on time, ready with a clean boat. the trip turned out exactly as I expressed it would even with my best effort. east wind low tide water temp 86 dirty water.

That's Why They Call It Fishing

    Half day Shad3 adults

Good trip, fishing not so great. I have fished this spot on the Roanoke for both shad and Rockfish for over 30 years. I have had great days and then some like we had yesterday. Good news is we caught 1 shad, and it was by the one in our group who had never even seen a shad in his life. Kind of made the trip! That day was the ONLY day we could go on this trip and we tried even though the conditions did not look promising. River had risen 10 feet overnight so visibility was poor with a lot of mud and debris, current was strong, and temperature was in the 30's. Captain Burrell, in my opinion, did everything right. We fished all the good spots in the main river channel, the little river, and even above the falls where the water levels were lower but the rocks are treacherous and you really have to know the river to avoid damage to your motor. I recommend Captain Burrell and I would like to give him another shot when the striped bass are back in Weldon.

    Perfect day

Half Day Trip – Inshore3 adults

The weather, the boat, the Captain and the cooperative fish made for a memorable day for the three of us. Captain Caylin put us on the fish within 30 minutes of leaving the dock. The action was consistent and the cooler had plenty of tasty black drum. We continued our hunt for different species. Live shrimp made for lots tugs and bait stealing pin fish. A stop on the way back for fresh shrimp at the market and we were grateful Captain cleaned our catch. Wonderful scenic fishery.

    Reported catch:
    Black Drum
    Speckled Trout
