We had good weather and a great time.  We were a party of 4 half who had never been offshore fishing.  Despite being harassed by Dolphins and later sharks Captain Scott put us on some fish.  The highlight of the day was watching one of our new fishermen catch an 80lb Amberjack followed by the other first timer catching one weighing in around 60lbs. Lots of Red Snapper and a couple varieties we could keep.  All in all a good day fishing.

I gave Capt a couple of challenges for our trip.
1. Alot of fish full of different species.
2. Make the trip memorable for our party of 4
3. Educate and teach 2 of our party how to fish so i could out fish my wife. (1 has never fished nor, been on a boat prior to our trip there)
4. Enjoy the trip himself and try not to fill like it’s a job.
I believe he succeeded my expectations and then some.From answering questions prior to booking to the one’s on the boat. ...Excellent
Weather wasn’t on our side 1st part of the morning.After discussing our options and keeping the “newbies” in mind along with safety in all, we held out a couple hours to let the storm pass. Great call because that made for a great day. Smooth waters, temp cooled nicely.
In the 1st 15 secs of the 1st line in the water, the wife catches her 1st AJ.
All together we caught AJ’s , red snapper , a cobia , and a albacore.
The newbie was in “awww” when we had 4 or so dolphins playing in our wake.
The girls loved the actual working bathroom. (We’ve been miss led a time it 2 in our past booking in other places)
Even with a late start, Capt done a hell of a job from start to finish. We will absolutely book him again and work our trip around his availability if possible.

No words can describe how great this fishing trip was.  Right from the beginning after booking the trip James was super responsive with how fishing has been going in Destin and very transparent with what we would target.  Upon arriving in Destin the weather like any other typical August was very hit / miss and we ended up moving our trip from Friday to Saturday which ended up working out perfectly. 

Upon arriving at the boat at 6am we got loaded up and headed out to start our day.  The first stop we made was getting some bait fish to increase our bait supply for the day.  After retrieving some bait we headed out about 20 minutes and started with some bottom fishing.  We ended up landing a banded runner and some Amberjacks.  If you fish off a wreckage, make sure you reel super-fast so sharks/dolphins don’t get them before you do :) Once we finished some bottom fishing spots we transitioned over to trolling and immediately landed two Mahi’s which hit back-to-back.  In between trolling we also fished some floating debris we came across and caught some fish on that as well.  We also did pick up the trash, so we got our boyscout badge for the day :)

All in all, it was a great day that started at 6am and went to about 5pm.  Once we got back to dock James cut up all the fish and put each type in a separate bag so when we got them cooked, we could let the chef know what type it was and best way to cook the fish.

100% would suggest going out with James and I look forward to going back out with him next time I’m in Destin.

Second charter of the week was with Apex Charters and Captain James. On our first charter we limited out rather quickly on Snapper so on this day, we wanted to go after some Mahi. Captain James kept in constant communication with us regarding some weather issues and let us know exactly when he was ok with taking us out safely and comfortably. Speaking of comfort, the boat was very nice and well kept as was the tackle provided.
The first stop we made, we were on Mahi and the Captain continued to keep us catching until we had our limits. Our group was so satisfied, we decided to “call it” as we had enough fish to take back to Texas! 
Captain James was easy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable. He answered all our questions as well as providing excellent instruction without being too hands on. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Apex charters and will be booking again.

Had a blast with Apex Charters. James worked with me to reschedule an earlier booking to late June due to the weather. I appreciated him reaching out to offer that as an option because it would have been a miserable waste of time with the storm if we went out on my original booking date. Late June was perfect weather wise and the tourism flood wasn’t in yet. Every spot we went to, James put us on fish and in abundance. We caught tons of Trigger Fish, Mahi, Red Snapper and a Bonito. Pro tip for all of you about to book with Apex, book the week of opening season if you are seeking Red Snapper and wait another month or two for Mahi. Had a blast being on a nice boat in Destin and ripping some lips. 10/10 would recommend.
