My son and I went out with Chris fishing for Red Drum. When we couldn’t get a bite we switched over for Speckled Trout and filled the cooler. Chris was great with my son — passing his rod to guide him in reeling in the catch (multiple times). My son was also able to hook his own fish and land it — made his day and our entire trip. Highly recommend Chris for both his patience, knowing where to find the fish and how to fish with kids. We had an awesome day and fed our house of 7 that night.

It’s a clean (spotless), well equipped boat and you have been on the water less than 30 minutes and other captains are calling your captain to find out where he is, because they know he already has you on the fish. Do yourself a favor and book with First Light Charters, we have 3 times so far. Thanks for another great day, Chris.

We had a great 4 hour trip inshore with Captain Chris.  Two adults, two kids 11 and 12 - the Captain could not have been more accommodating and just flat out nice.  He took the time to teach the kids how to work the rods and helped out with everything from baiting to casting to unhooking the ~35 fish we caught during the 4 hours.  He knew exactly where to go and had us on fish within minutes of stopping at our first spot.  While your mileage may vary, and I’m sure the Captain is too humble to take the credit that he should, this guy definitely knows what he’s doing and is just a really wonderful person.  Stop reading this review and hit the book button, you won’t be sorry!!!

Chris greeted the three of us on the docks before our trip began. He made sure we boarded a freshly washed boat ready to set out for the trip. Chris gave us a brief rundown of what to expect and then took us out to his first spot. Chris was very friendly and made great conversation while helping us to fish effectively. He was very knowledgeable of the Sound and would answer any questions we had. All in all, it was a great experience to be on a boat with just our party and a captain that helped make the experience exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely look to charter with First Light next time we are in the Outer Banks.

Our family had a blast!! Chris is amazing, patient, and attentive to kids. My son is just getting into fishing an by the 1.5 hour mark he was ready for snacks/drinks and caught tons of fish. Had we booked a 1/2 day trip I think with the sun an waiting between fish bites he may have came out not enjoying fishing anymore (as he gets older his attention span will increase, but for now I’ld love to keep him interested). Chris brought us to catch some “big” fish and then to a spot every cast yielded a small fish! My son loved to hold them an watch them wiggle back into the ocean. Chris took the time to show him the parts of the fish that could scratch/hurt him if he touched them. Plus, when Chris got a bite, he gave the pole to my son to wheel in! Bonus catches he called it. I am not a fisher, and more enjoyed the boat ride, soaking up some sun, an taking 100 videos/pics of my guys. Overall, it was great to get off shore an still gave us plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day at the beach! Def recommend an well worth the price.
