We came into Nassau on a cruise and wanted to do some off-shore fishing in while in the Bahamas. We couldn’t get off the ship until 8 so we couldn’t do the full day so we had to settle with the half day. We all offshore fish back home so this was not a first for us. Idk if it was because of the half day but we literally started fishing in the inlet and just trolled probably 5 miles out and turned around and came back. We only had a 4 rod spread going with out riggers so beginner setup with no teasers or dredges. First fish I jump up to get it bc the mate was upstairs with the captain. My first reaction was to bump the drag up a little bit bc back home we troll with the drags very low so that we hear ever bite and then we can set the hook once the fish has eaten it. Little did I know all the rods were set between 4-5 on the penn international 50 which is way too much plus the captain didn’t slow down at all so the line snapped pretty much immediately.  They use knots instead of krimped sleeves which I also think had something to do with it. The mate kind of snapped at me saying how I just lost the weight and leader and rig like I didn’t notice but anyway all good that’s just the first fish. We didnt get another bite for 2 hours, well we thought. We brought multiple lines in that had cut ballyhoo or no ballyhoo and no way of knowing if a fish hit bc the reels drags were all so damn tight. We caught 4 football sized Bonita type trash fish and that was the whole trip. We just trolled all the way back into the inlet that we could see the whole time and got off. Over all I was just very disappointed with the trip fishing wise and it was not worth 1100 dollars. Not good for people that know how fun off shore fishing can really be but if you have never been fishing it might be fun.
