Captain
Kevin F
Member since January 2022
Grand Isle, United States
- Background
- Born and raised in South Louisiana, growing up chasing Speckled Trout and Redfish in the bayous and marshes with his father and brother. As a teen, Captain Kevin became hooked on Snapper fishing in the Gulf of Mexico as it was easily accessible by way of his father's bay boat when the weather conditions were good. With all that he has learned throughout the years, a new passion for taking others to enjoy nature and the sport of fishing developed. Captain Kevin prides himself on the fact that, by using his years of experience and knowledge of fishing, he can do what is necessary to ensure guests have an exciting and action-packed trip.
- Techniques
- Captain Kevin prefers using spinning reels when taking guests fishing as they are extremely versatile and can be used to catch any species you may encounter on your charter. For Red Snapper and even Cobia fishing, he prefers to bottom fish using an egg sinker tied onto a braided line with a fluorocarbon leader attached to a circle hook with either cut bait or squid. When fishing for Mangrove Snapper, the captain uses a similar setup except he'll usually remove the weight and free line the bait into the oil rigs where hungry Mangrove and Cobia are feeding. For inshore fish like Speckled Trout, he'll either use dead or live shrimp under a popping cork. But on those days where the action is non-stop, he'll switch to artificial bait which allows more time to catch fish as you save time by not having to have your line rebaited. For Redfish, Captain Kevin prefers to bottom fish using shrimp, minnows, or croakers, but he's also been successful on topwater bait along with jigging.
