Took a half day trip with Uptick and mostly caught belt fish. Was a fun time but the hand wouldn’t fillet for us and advised us to go across the street to the marina. We went there but it’s a private marina so they refused us. On all the other charters I’ve been on they fillet for us, Uptick rush us out for the next party. After paying $700 and landing 10 minutes early the next party isn’t my concern. The whole ride back he could have helped rather than smoking cigs up top. We’re not experienced fisherman and none of us had seen a belt fish or had a fillet knife so this served difficult at home. With all the tiny bones that broke off we unfortunately lost most of our meat :(

Won’t be returning to Uptick.

Crew did a great job making the whole experience easy and relaxing.  It was my friend and I and our daughters.  The focus was on our daughters, who had a great time.  Boat and equipment was in top shape.  The guy doing the tackling and stuff did a great job keeping everything going and also talking with us from time to time about what we were doing.  We also liked the route they took, as we weren’t familiar with the area and were able to see a lot of the surrounding area from the water.

A group of us took out this charter hoping to catch some Wahoo (Yellowfin mostly moved north and the weed lines for Mahi have been breaking up). Plus, we had never caught Wahoo before. A couple of charters cancelled on us over the week and these guys came through. The conditions were rough, definitely 8-10 footers on the way out to the Gulf Stream and 6-8 footers while trolling the ledge. But, the 36’ Cat handled very well, and both Captain Mike and First Mate Pete were awesome. Experienced, friendly, fun, and accommodating. We had a friendly competition with our deep diver vs. their ballyhoo. We caught that elusive Wahoo, which was amazing (even if it was with the ballyhoo). Pete worked hard and had everything running seamlessly. We have experience and he let us put in some work (many of the boats tend to prefer that the tourists step aside). We came to the Outer Banks to fish, anyone else doing the same should look these guys up and book!

The starting point provided on my confirmation from FishingBooker had our pick up point in Duck (the correct starting point is on Uptick Charters website which I did not find myself), but when I called Captain Mike, we were about 30 minutes away from the departure point.  He was very kind on the phone and said this is your trip and we are here for you!

Upon arrival, Mike and his first mate Tracy we attentive to our questions and needs.  We had a beautiful day on the water, and we caught 12 fish, mainly Spanish Mackerel and and about 4 Blue Fish.  Tracy stayed plenty busy as Mike was able to find a couple of school’s of fish that kept the lines hopping.

Mike stayed out on the water extra time because of the pick up location mix up, and both men we very accommodating to our needs.  They work well together and provide great service and fishing experience.  I highly recommend them!!

We had a great time!  Captain Mike was very helpful and knowledgeable. Mate Wesley was helpful and fun to fish with. The boat was top notch and even though the fish weren’t cooperating, we still caught a few and got to see dolphins and tons of beautiful sights along the way.
