Captain Taco Perez has been mastering the waters of South Florida since the mid 70’s. He fished for Jacks, Tarpon, and whatever else patrolled the canals and Intracoastal waterways. Taco’s first boat was a 25’ Open Fisherman, aboard which he explored the Ft. Lauderdale coast. Taco gained as much information as possible from local anglers, perfected his cast, and tried various techniques and fishing methods. Before he knew, people began asking him about fishing! Taco’s repertoire is not limited to the waters of South Florida. He has fished all over Mexico, Venezuela, St. Thomas, and Turk, as well as the Bahamas. He has successfully taken part in various fishing competitions, including the Bahamas Blue Marlin tournament. Now, Captain Taco has his own charter business and he is loving every minute of it.
Techniques
We do quite a bit of trolling and in the winter months we also like to kite fish along with some deep drops on some of the ship wrecks.

Today we went fishing with David and Vanessa from West Palm Beach. There down in Fort Lauderdale celebrating Davidโ€™s B Day and fishing was part of their planes. Now as it turns out David is an avid fisherman and spends time in the Florida Keys fishing for tarpon with a fly rod but today he had a couple other fish he wanted off his bucket list. He was hoping to catch a black fin tuna a Mahia Mahia and if possible a sailfish. Well this was a tall order to fill I told him but we would do our best but I guaranteed a good time. But as we set off looking for a black fin ob a Mahia Mahia off shore thing started l;ooking pretty bad with the winds cranking at about 18 knots and to make matters worse the rain came and I mean it came down hard. It was looking like I was going to have a hard time just that guarantee about the good time@%@%^* But we stuck it out trolling with 2 baits down deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface. Than all of a sudden bite on one of our deep lines and BAM 1 small black fin tuna in the box. A few minutes later another small tuna followed but a skip jack tuna than another. Ok the rain stopped and things were looking up when we got another bite on one of the deep lines BUT this time a Wahoo heck yea was not on the order but heck high 5s for every one. Ok now the rain was gone and we thought we would set out a couple kites with live bait suspended from them and thatโ€™s when thing really started hopping. A Mahia Mahgi and we were Hooked Up after a 5 min back and forth tug a war fish in box!!! Yep we got what they ordered but wait we were still fishing and here comes another Mahia and yep another they were biting and we were having a ball. Then out of nowhere popped up a sailfish and yep the fight was on. 20 min later David had this 6 foot sailfish to the boat. We got a few pictures with the sail still in the water then we released this beautiful fish to fight again another day. David and Vanessa thanks SOOO much had a ball fishing with you and Iโ€™m sure we will be fishing again soon. Captain Taco **hidden content** **hidden content**and all had a great time.

Today started out with 4 to 5 foot seas and slows fishing BUT some how by the grace of good thing took a big turn for the better. We had some of the unthought-of heroes (Truck Drivers) and when you think about it with out them we would have no food, medicine, appliances ECT so yea these guys are heroes in their on right. We had Albert who brought along his 3 sons Ripton, Omar and Owen along with close friends of the family Sean and Normun. Eating fish was the target today so we headed right off shore looking for some Mahi Mahi but only catching a couple small black fin tunas. Ok time for plane B so we headed in to fish some of our local wrecks but it just was not panning out for us so we were just going to make a move to another wreck when here came this gift from god a school of Mahi and the chaos began. Fish in the water all around the boat lines get tangled with each other BUT fish were hitting the deck and man was it a ball. Soon the school of Mahi left and we were just about to do the same when BAM here they came again only by now everyone was getting the hang of it and fish were now coming into the boat one after another. We finally did find some nice almaco jacks on the bottom and the box looked real good at this point with more than enough eating fish for everyone and some extra for the freezer. Snapper Grouper Fishing Fort Lauderdale For the last couple of weeks the current has slowed down the moon was right and the bottom fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale had been great. We have been setting up just up stream from some wrecks and coming up with some YUMMMMY catches. Thereโ€™s been a hand full of nice groupers (Black Groupers and some Warsaw Groupers) Along with some great eating mutton snappers and of cause the always welcomed Yellow Tail snappers. Wow so we had Steve and his girlfriend Melissa on board the Hooked Up for just a relaxing 4 hour fishing trip. So we started out trolling and catching Bonitas and a couple black fin tuna and all was going great. But than we decided to switch up and do some shark fishing along with a couple baits suspenseful from our kites just in case any sailfish or Mahia showed up. Well it was our deep line with a shark bait that got bite. And line was peeling off like a freight train was on the other end pulling ! Line off the rail. After a 15 minute back-and-forth tug-of-war a pop this monster Tigershark. We took a few pictures and cut the leader as close as we could to the fish and release him to fight another day. Wait do you ask? You be the judge I figured 600. Ironically enough this is the third one caught this week off the coast of Fort Lauderdale my son a boy that hooked up to court one as well and another one of the local captainsAlso caught one. Crazy Iโ€™ve never seen this many tiger sharks off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Captain Taco hooked up sportfishing

March 11 Today we had a ball deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale with Robert, Jesse and Chip. We started out trolling and catching Black fin tunas bonitos and a Mahia. Than we tried a deep drop looking for a big bottom fish and all of a sudden we were in for a big fight when this big silky shark took the bait and BAM the fight was on. After a good 10 min tug a war we had him to the boat. After a few pictures we cut him free to fight again another day. Today we had a blast fishing with Brain from Orlando and Marrylouz (Yep thatโ€™s how she spells her name) from Colombia. We started out trolling and got lucky with some kingfish and a few bonitos. Ok time for plain (B) So in came the trolling gear and down went one of our live bonito 230 feet to a ship wreck AKA a bad neighborhood!! Once we hit the bottom Captain Mike reeled the live bait about 20 feet above the shipwreck and BAM the rod bent over and the fight was on. After a good 15 min fight finally up popped this big Greater Amber Jack. (NICE) Ok now plan for plan (C) So now out came the kites to set out with some live baits suspended from them. It started out slow waiting and waiting for the bite so we slid down a snapper rig to the bottom and hey we started catching snappers and triggerfish. Yep that was great BUT all of a sudden a sailfish popped up under one of our kite baits and BAM we were Hooked Up again. Brain wasted no time jumping in the chair and the back and forth tug a war began. What a great sight this fish was dancing all over the surface and finally Brain wore him down and we finally got him to the boat for a few great pictures. Brain had fished with us the day before and truth being told fishing was very very slow!! (RATS) Brain thanks so much for giving us a second chance to show you what we really can do just so long as a few fish show up for the party. Captain Taco
