I searched through quite a few fishing charters and landed on this one. I’m not a fan of trolling, and the smaller trips (2-4 hours) didn’t seem to produce great gamefish like Akihiro could. I wanted a fishing trip with constant rod action, and that’s what you’ll get with jigging. Captain Akihiro brought us to amazing spots and helped us reel in monsters! I’ve never experienced bringing in fish that weigh more than a few pounds, so seeing a 40-45lb giant trevally brought in blew my mind. His jigging skills were impressive, even while we ate lunch he kept going! You have to invest time into getting to the fishing spots, if you want to catch kingfish. We were getting hits as soon as the jig hit the bottom! He showed me photos of his previous trips and the results are there! He’s very skilled boater, fisherman, lots of knowledge and expertise. We plan on returning to Hawaii, but even if we land on a different island I will be booking another trip with Captain Akihiro. Thanks for the great trip!

Well do believe captain Akahiro is in fact a hero. Unfortunately most of the trip was riding around rough waters, no fishing for kids, and not much for adults - until captain manages to hook a fish on - his crankbait technique isn’t easy to replicate or skill to acquire right away - especially not in a boat that appears to eject you at any moment.

My 7 year old son and I ended up with a good experience, thanks to the 10 pounder and then 30+ pounder amberjack we pulled out. But that happened (both) before 6.30 AM - and then without a bite for the next 5+ hours was tough.

Caught a snapper on my first “practice” drop. It was my first time fishing the ocean. He was a great guide and teacher. Caught fish on nearly 50 percent of my drops lost some, and had a big one best me. A shark cut me off on one.

My 14 year old daughter landed about a 20 lb amberjack [with the Captain’s help] too.

Unfortunately we had a couple VERY seasick people and we cut our day short, but we boated about as many fish as I could physically handle anyways. It’s a ton of fun and hard work.

If you want to get a high success rate, this is absolutely your trip.
