The Rock on Report Middle Bay Fishing. Rockfish breaking with BIRDS. Bluefish ..mixed in with the rockfish in the bird shows. Mackerel ..they are gone as far as we can tell.. Stripers AKA “Rockfish” They are on bunker and glass minnows. LOTS of bait in the bay currently and some good bird activity in the PM. We have not had much in the way of breaking fish on our morning trips. Still have fish shallow on structure and also 20 feet plus on structure ...Top water is good very early and last light. Perch Still here and some good ones hitting 4’ paddle tails in shallow water. Spot So BIG ones are still here and if you are live lining, the “rockfish candy” ones are also being caught. Water temps are coming down and they are moving back shallow. BLUEFISH are mixed in with the rockfish in the deeper water. G-EYE jig RAIN MINNOW 1oz PINK and Silver Sparkle working great. We are also using Z-Man 4’ diesel minnows and catching both rock and blues under birds. Speckled Trout. None this week but paddle tails work the best. Cobia and Redfish Some REDs are still around. LJ from G-EYE jigs says “Just small WOLF PACKS” here and there. We marked them yesterday but could not get them to bite. Have not seen any cobia in a few weeks. The Rock on Report Middle Bay Fishing. Rockfish are BACK!! Bluefish ..some really nice ones also!! Few Mackerel ..not like last year. Stripers AKA “Rockfish” They are HERE ..or back from hanging out where ever they have been all summer….Same as last week.. Lots of charter boats live lining and trolling, we have been doing top water EARLY and also doing some live lining on structure. Had some small breaking “schoolie” rockfish under birds this week. Perch Have not been targeting them as of late. But are getting them when we are trying for spot for live lining. Spot Catching all size spots. But, like the perch deeper water. The “rockfish candy” size are still being caught a ton, but some good eating sizes were coming in the boat. BLUEFISH ARE HERE IN FORCE. They are hitting metal and live lining works great. G-EYE jig RAIN MINNOW 1oz PINK and Silver Sparkle working great. “MACS” are here finally! But not in force as in years past. We are seeing some breaking blues in the PM on structure .. Stripers AKA “Rockfish” Opens back up tomorrow 8/1 Perch We found some in open deeper “cooler” water last week. The bigger ones are there. Docks throwing small rattle traps or spinner baits have gotten fish. Spot Same as last week. But like the perch…Little deeper “cooler” water. We had a good week catching medium to big spot. The “rockfish candy” size are still being caught a ton, but some good eating sizes were coming in the boat. BLUEFISH ARE HERE IN FORCE. They are hitting metal and live lining works great. Still using the 3”-4” paddle tails on ¼ oz G-EYE jigs but the paddle tails are not as productive as topwater. It’s a very early bite, but if you can catch a good tide current, they will be active most anytime of the day. Perch Docks…The bigger ones are there. Some are on the oyster beds, but docks throwing small rattle traps or spinner baits have gotten the best fish. We have not been getting very many off the docks while bottom fishing. Early AM and LATE PM bite. Spot We had a good week catching medium to big spot. The “rockfish candy” size are still being caught a ton, but some good eating sizes were coming in the boat this week. It’s a very early bite, but if you can catch a good tide current, they will be active most anytime of the day. Perch Docks…The bigger ones are there.
