We have recently been splitting a lot of our 4 hours trips between fast action channel cat fishing and drifting for those trophy fish. With the recent cold front coming through, now is prime time to go in search of that one fish that can make your trip really special. We haven't landed a monster yet this season, but we have been regularly catching 6+ pound fish. The fish will only get bigger as the water temperature drops. I haven't found those white bass and hybrids schooling up yet to do some deadsticking, but that is right around the corner as well.

Today, I had Pete junior and senior on the boat. We were originally scheduled to go yesterday, but we decided to go today instead. It was 31 degrees when I got on the boat, but I think we made a good choice as it warmed up quickly. I had tried a new spot last weekend and told them I wanted to head out there to that deeper water. The bite was steady all morning, and we finished the day with 49 fish in the cooler and 6 bent hooks. We had number 50 up to the boat just before our time was up, but senior let him off the hook. I was determined to finish out the limit, but these guys had enough fun for the day and didn't want to keep me out late. It started out all blues, and by the end of the trip, we were catching mostly channels.

I had a four hour trip this morning, and I needed a change of scenery, so I moved about 50 feet to the southwest. My guests were having a little difficulty to start out the trip with getting the feel of the bite and hook set. After about 15 minutes, they started to get the hang of it. We ended up with 21 fish in the cooler within the first hour, and that was enough for them. We finished out the trip catching and releasing. The Guide's Choice Punch Bait kept them biting, and Bobo's Thumper held them under the boat for the whole trip. We stayed in the same location and didn't move. I have a day off tomorrow and then back at it again on Thursday and Friday.

Today was my first day back on the lake after a week of vacation. I had a group of six and these guys and girls had me busier than a cat burying a turd on a frozen pond. By the time we got the second line in the water, we had fish coming over the rails. It took me about an hour to finally get a rod in everyone's hand. Tomorrow is JoJo's 4th birthday and by the end of the trip, he was my lead deckhand. He really enjoyed putting that Guide's Choice Punch Bait on the hook. We ended up keeping 26 eater size fish and probably threw back twice as many, if not more.
