Don’t go with a low budget outfit under $600 for 1/2 day. Make sure you are clear on what you want: trolling vs deep dive. If you want to keep the fish, make sure that is allowed and that the crew will clean it. Avoid outfits that offer snorkeling and drinking if you really want to catch fish.

Perhaps anglers should go out into deeper water (e.g., 2000 meters). The Montego Bay area is over-fished from what we heard. Also, the week of Dec. 16-23 (2017) was very windy. We picked the only day when the wind was at under 14 knots. The other days were 15-22 knots, so not ideal for fishing or snorkeling. Check the Marine forecast before making your reservation.

If you are like me that cannot leave without tasting it, try to get a captain who will do deep drop fishing, trolling is poor , at least close to shore, and they promise to take you 15 miles out but then they try to avoid it and stay close to shore

Go on Captain Criag's Magic Reel trip! We didn't catch much the day we went, it was rough and a bit rainy, but we had a fun and memorable trip.

The crew of Reel Magic were great with our first timers. Bring sun screen and a good attitude. The rest will be fantastic!
