What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Homosassa, Florida for the first time?

Absolutely! This area is great. Maybe not in the middle of August heat but even at that time of year, with a good guide you will catch fish. Amenities are excellent with lots to do in addition to fishing for visitors of all ages.

Favorable weather conditions would make the difference on any given day. Understanding fish behavior in all conditions and where to get 'em is all on the shoulders of the boat captain. I would like another shot at it.

Redfish season is open all year long and there seems to be plenty of fishing for catching. Bring polarized glasses to help see the fish in the water better. Enjoy the beauty of it all and make sure you see Monkey Island.

I’d rate it a ten thanks for me doing the work to find a guide, David Maki and Duanne Tibbetts with zero help from Fishing Booker after Cracker Boy cancelled with zero recommendations for me to fish after traveling 1,000 miles to Florida, I and they made they made it happen.

Great communication! We had to reschedule because of weather. Then, I have to push out meeting time because of a Tropical storm call. Captain Randy waited at the ramp for over an hour. Never mentioned it. Professional guy! We have fished with some Captains that did not have conversation with our kids. Not Capt Randy! He was so good with the kids and answered the many questions they had! Boat was nice, fast, with a lot of room. Take this Captain you won't be sorry I did!

Light rain gear as showers are possible anytime. Bring drinks, snacks, sunglasses and hats. Know the basics of casting and fishing. Of course the captain will help but your experience will be richer if you practice and learn a little first.

Super area! Clear water! Lots of different kinds of fish one might catch! We preferred Homosassa over Crystal River, not nearly as commercialized. In addition to catching fish, we enjoyed seeing the dolphins, sting rays, a shark, lots of pelicans, etc.

This is our 4th charter in Homosassa. Much better success in Tarpon Sporings and Clearwater areas. Moer porfessional, better boarts and more enjoyable. THe long ride from McCrays to open water better spent fishing.

The weather this year was warmer than normal, so that limits to what you may catch. I would advise you to call the charters ahead of time and discuss what kind of fish you want to target. Then charter can be prepared appropriately for you trip.

DO IT! You wont regret it! Wish we had heard of scallopping a long time ago! And a combined trip of scallopping (getting full legal limit!) and line fishing in the same trip was awesome!

We went at the end of the season and didn't know what to expect, but we caught more than enough scallops. It was a great time.

Book your trip around the incoming tide and be flexible if the Capt. has a suggestion on when the best time to depart will be to maximize your opportunity to land fish.

Try to research ahead of time and stick to quality names and outfitters or guides who have been in service for a number of years and have good reports. My suggestion is probably not to pick up somebody who is available on a weekend during prime fishing season..... There might be a reason for it!! Could always call and see if they got a cancellation at the last minute which is possible. But if you go into something like fishing Booker and open a lot of days I would stay away from them!

Bring sun protection and sunscreen! Do the cook your catch at the marina, the blackened Redfish was amazing!!

This is old Florida at it's best. everyone is friendly personal and professional. This will be my new ramp to launch from

Enjoy the beauty as much as the fishing. The area is gorgeous and you can sight cast for most species outside the river.

Wear layers in the early morning when the temperature is below 70 degrees. It is chilly when the boat runs.

We actually were a lot further south near Anclote, where we had a shorter ride to reach the scallops.

Listen to your charter Captain they know the area and the water better than you do and they can make the best suggestions

Bring plenty of sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. A 3/4 day fishing is perfect in May as the last 2 hrs of a full day get really hot.

We went fishing a day after a big storm fish weren't hitting very much, we still had a lot of fun though.

If its been raining its not going to be as successful as dry weather. Take a sweatshirt for the ride out, but later it will be very warm.

We didn't fish so I cannot say what we would recommend but definitely try scalloping if you are looking for a new experience.

The only disappointment was there was no toilet on the boat. Everything was provided except food and drink.

Use a reputable firm such as Saltface. They provide everything you need except food and drink. Captain Mike will get you on fish and explain how to fish.
