We are in the thick of summer and there’s a little bit of everything going on. The Coronado Islands have been biting well! Calicos, barracuda, and mixed grade of yellowtail. And if you’re lucky enough, a surprise appearance from some fickle bluefin tuna. With the right tactics, landing one can be achieved! Offshore the fish have been in and out of the zones. Biting great one day and disappearing the next. This is due to the weather and conditions being a little mixed. This next week, conditions look more steady. The focus offshore will continue to be bluefin, yellowtail, and hopefully dorado. Inshore the bite has been fun! Calico bass are biting well with barracuda in the mix. Fun morning half day for a family enjoying San Diego in the summer. It's been a great mixed bag of fish lately with the water warming. Pulling in dinner and smiles for miles.

I gotta say, there’s nothing better then seeing my guests get all fired up when they manage to hook a Dorado on the fly! It gets me just as stoked as if I caught it. Fishing with these two gentlemen Friday was a blast! All they wanted was to catch a mahi by way of fly for the first time. Mission accomplished! Perfect weather, flat seas, and exciting battles with these beautiful game fish! These fish always put on a great show, like watching fireworks go off! Really going to miss them when they decide to leave for warmer waters. It’s been quite an amazing year, one I won’t forget! 2022, the year of the Mahi.
