A Family Fishing Success For the second time in less than two weeks, we had the privilege of welcoming a family from Ukraine on board the Mathis. They came to us with a very specific strategic goal: they wanted to skip trolling entirely and focus 100% on spinning and bottom fishing. Even though we located a productive current very close to the coast, we immediately adapted our setup to match their preference. The strategy paid off beautifully. The family had an incredible time experiencing the fast-paced, hands-on action of casting and jigging. In a short period, they successfully brought in seven Rainbow Runners, a Surgeonfish, and a Triggerfish (pez chancho)—all excellent white-meat species known for their fantastic flavor. As often happens with open-ocean adventures, the wind and swell picked up, causing heavy seasickness for some of the family members. Prioritizing their comfort and safety above all else, we made the executive decision to head back to port early.
