Overcoming Heavy Swells in the Blue
Overcoming Heavy Swells in the Blue

What an absolute dream team we had on board today! Despite the storm warnings, there was simply no intimidating these brave ocean cowboys, who alongside our crew—continuing their stellar work—set out determined to win the day. Nature tested our resolve with some truly rugged conditions: five-foot swells and a heavy, relentless downpour. However, aboard the Mathis, rough conditions only bring out the true grit of the anglers we carry inside. Our persistence and bravery didn't take long to be spectacularly rewarded by the Pacific. The action on deck was a pure adrenaline rush, hooking into an impressive triple hookup followed by two consecutive doubles that made the reels scream. By nine in the morning, the scoreboard was already glorious. At lines out, the final tally reached six Yellowfin Tuna and five premium Mahi-mahi. A massive haul that provided more than enough to share around. Today, our guests return to port with a packed cooler, ready to host an unforgettable dinner with the rewards of a battle won through pure courage. Daily Log: * Sea Conditions: Waves of 5 feet and heavy rain due to local storm. * Action on Cover: 1 Triplet and 2 successful Doubles consecutively. * Total Captures: 6 Yellowfin Tuna and 5 Mahi-mahi. * Result: Maximum action quota and cooler full ahead of schedule for dinner. #CostaRicaFishing #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #SailfishRelease #SportFishingCostaRica #SportfishingLife #MathisFishingLegends #MahiMahi

When the Weather Defies and the Fishing
When the Weather Defies and the Fishing
June 1, 2026
There are days when the ocean rewards those who show up. Today we set out on a trip among friends; too bad for those who missed it at the last minute, because they will surely regret it once they see the logbook results. Although our initial plan was to navigate much farther out, our crew's sharp eyes spotted a beautifully defined current line, and we chose to bet on it. The rain didn't take long to roll in and refresh us with all its power, but aboard the Mathis, fresh water only means the action is about to heat up. The tactical decision couldn't have been better. On our very first drops, we hooked into two spectacular Mahi-mahi doubles that sparked pure adrenaline on deck. Maintaining our strict commitment to sustainability, we safely released a few smaller ones back into the water to let them grow. By the end of the day, the final tally reached ten premium Mahi-mahi and, to crown the journey, four Yellowfin Tuna that didn't hesitate to put up a spectacular, hard-fighting battle. We returned to port with a packed cooler—plenty of fish not just for an incredible dinner, but to share with everyone. Daily Log: * Type of Trip: Departure of Colleagues / Friends. * Captures: 10 Mahi-mahi Selected (several juveniles released) & 4 Yellowfin Tuna). * Conditions: Intense tropical rain and navigation on a very active current. * Result: Cooler to the maximum with premium quality fishing for consumption. #CostaRicaFishing #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #SailfishRelease #SportFishingCostaRica #SportfishingLife #MathisFishingLegends #MahiMahi

Aboard the Mathis, we program every detail with surgical precision, but we know the final word always belongs to the sky. Today, the forecast promised a gleam of sunshine at launch; however, experience dictated that we suggest an earlier departure to our guests. And what a blessing that they trusted our instinct! The weather didn't just fail to clear—it challenged us with one of those intense Pacific downpours that soaked us to the bone. But on this boat, fresh water only ignites the will to battle. Once positioned on the Offshore grounds for our 5-hour journey, our strategy yielded perfect rewards against our two major targets. First, we struck with a beautiful Mahi-mahi double hookup, soon adding a third specimen to the line. These three excellent-sized fish are now destined for local chefs who transform our catches into unique culinary masterpieces for our friends' palates. Yet, the true emphasis from our very first conversation was placed on the season's elusive giant: the majestic Sailfish. With flawless technique and perfect on-board synchronicity, we successfully caught and safely released two specimens, protecting their legacy in the ocean. We returned to port soaked, but with the glory of having overcome the elements. We know today's crew already has their minds set on their return. Daily Log: • Duracition: Half Day Offshore (5 Hours). • Gastronomy: 3 Mahi-mahi Intended to be prepared in local restaurants. • Conservation: 2 Sailfish Captured and successfully released. • Note from the Captain: Right tactical decision when advancing the exit, gaining time from severe weather conditions. #CostaRicaFishing #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #SailfishRelease #SportFishingCostaRica #SportfishingLife #MathisFishingLegends #MahiMahi

The Value of Persistence: Chasing the Ki
The Value of Persistence: Chasing the Ki
May 21, 2026
Aboard the Mathis, we know that some days are designed like a true game of chess. Today we set out on a quick turn around midday for a half-day charter, knowing well in advance that the hours ahead would be tough and demanding. The challenge on the table was one of the highest in sport fishing: targeting the prestigious and elusive Roosterfish. Confident that we had the right live bait and the perfect rigs, we pointed our bow toward the rocky structures. We visited every coordinate in our logbook, literally searching beneath the reefs, patrolling the channels where he hides, and keeping our hopes high with every single cast. We studied every technical detail, shifting angles and distances, but the King of the Coast chose to keep his crown hidden this afternoon. Instead, the Pacific rewarded our persistence with a massive Needlefish that put up a beautiful surface fight. In the end, that is what authentic fishing is all about: enjoying every single moment on the water, exhausting strategies, and applying the disciplines that make our guests feel that, regardless of the final score, aboard the Mathis we navigate as true elite anglers. Daily Log: * Duration: Half Day - Afternoon. * Main Objective: Roosterfish / Inshore. * Capture: 1 Needlefish. * Technical Note: Use of specialized live bait and rigorous exploration of coastal rock structures. #InshoreFishing #Needlefish #RoosterfishChallenge #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #Persistence #SportfishingLife

The Combined Strategy: Tide Rhythms and
May 20, 2026
A full day aboard the Mathis allows us to explore every shade the Central Pacific offers, shifting between coastal instincts and deep-blue adrenaline. We launched the first two hours of the morning betting heavily on Inshore action, looking to shake up the dawn with the giants of the rocks. The sea tested us early: we hooked two brutal strikes that pushed our gear to the limit and, in battles that only true "monsters" can deliver, managed to snap the line. Those are the chapters that leave you hungry to come back for a rematch. Following the water's reading, we chose to turn the page and navigate offshore in search of steady action to pack the cooler. The strategy paid off perfectly when we crossed a well-defined current line holding an impressive concentration of Mahi-mahi. Our anglers' efficiency was outstanding, bringing 20 fish to the boat. Keeping our strict commitment to marine sustainability, we kept 15 excellent-sized specimens for the table and safely released the remaining 5 back into the ocean to continue their growth cycle. To close this 8-hour journey on a high note, we headed back Inshore as the afternoon waned. The coastal reef said goodbye with two massive strikes that ripped line with incredible power, betraying the cunning and weight of what were likely large Cubera Snappers or Groupers. A spectacular balance for a day where our guests kept the rods bent, hooking their own fish and living the true essence of sport fishing. Daily Log: * Modality: Full Day (Inshore / Offshore / Inshore). * Captures: 20 Mahi-mahi (15 Retained for dinner, 5 Released by size). * Inshore Action: 4 Massive background spikes (possible Cuberas/Meros) that tested the team's resistance. * Technical Note: 100% of the hooks made directly by our customers. #CostaRicaFishing #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #Persistence #SportfishingLife #MathisFishingLegends #MahiMahi
