There are days when the ocean shows all
August 18, 2026
Our new friends boarded with the illusion of debuting in Costa Rican waters on their first day in the country, and luck did not take long to respond: just an hour and a half after having set sail and just pulled the lines, pum! The rod was bent with the first yellowfin tuna of the day. Unfortunately, the rough sea and aggressive waves began to do their thing. As we always recommend to our customers, going to the local pharmacy for preventive 'armament' for dizziness is key to enjoying the day 100%. We were forced to withdraw from the hot area for the comfort of the group just when a second tuna was released before we could secure the line. On the return we tried to look for revenge in other points, but after almost 5 hours of battle (out of the 8 scheduled), the group preferred to cut the start and return to dry land to rest. A day of learning, a good tuna in the cooler and intact respect for sea conditions. SUMMARY OF CAPTURES Species: Yellowfin Tuna (Atún Aleta Amarilla) Piques / Contacts: 2 Captures Achieved: 1 Yellowtin Tuna Losses: 1 specimen detached on the surface Effective Browsing Time:5 Hours (Cut at the customer's request for dizziness/water conditions) #Mathisfishinglegends #SportFishingCostaRica #YellowfinTuna #OffshoreFishing #CaptainReport #DailyLog

Great day of offshore fishing aboard the
August 14, 2026
Curiously, the departures that begin with a slight delay usually end accompanied by that mystique that every fisherman recognizes: less desire and better vibes in the water. We had the pleasure of attending to a group of young Israelis in search of regular action. The sea responded strongly and demanded them to the maximum. The battle was hard: between fatigue and technical work in the exchange of reeds, we missed four yellowfin tuna. Even so, thanks to the persistence of the group and the support of our crew in the most critical moments of the fight, we managed to upload 4 beautiful specimens of excellent size. A day of great gratitude with the ocean, especially remembering how hard the fishing was the previous Saturday on the coast. The sea takes away, but also returns! CAPTURE & PERFORMANCE SUMMARY Target Species: Yellowfin Tuna / Pelagic Offshore Piques / Contacts: 8+ Interactions on the high seas Captures Achieved: 4 Large Yellow Fin Tunas ("Panzonas") Losses in Fight: 4 specimens (zapados in exchange of cane/exhaustion) Water Conditions: Open sea with good temperature and current structure #Mathisfishinglegends #CharterFishing #YellowfinTuna #OffshoreFishing #CaptainReport #DailyLog #PuraVida

Safety First, Trophy Fish Guaranteed

2 Sailfish and Prime Snappers When a fellow boat captain and his wife stepped aboard the Mathis, their goal was clear: land a bucket-list billfish. In offshore fishing, plans often adapt to the conditions—and when you have an expert crew at the helm, those adjustments turn into pure success. Before mid-day on our 8-hour run, the ocean rewarded our precise positioning with two massive, gorgeous Sailfish successfully fought and safely released right by the gunwale, along with three prime Red Snappers to ensure an incredible dinner back on shore. However, true seamanship isn't just about catching fish; it’s about taking care of the people on board. When our assistant fell ill mid-day alongside a sudden rise in heavy winds, we didn't hesitate. We adjusted our schedule, prioritized health and comfort, and navigated back at a smooth, careful pace. We returned to port with full hieleras, a healthy crew, and the immense satisfaction of a mission accomplished. Daily Log: Service: Full-Day Offshore / Inshore Combo Charter (Adjusted Return) Target Guests: Returning Commercial/Charter Captain & Spouse Total Catch: 2 Sailfish (Safely released at the gunwale), 3 Red Snappers (Pargos Rojos). Key Highlight: Reaching target catch objectives before mid-day (2 Sailfish & 3 Red Snappers), followed by a cautious and safe navigation back to port to prioritize crew health amid sudden windy conditions. #Mathisfishinglegends #Sailfish #RedSnapper #CostaRicaFishing #HerraduraBeach #Seamanship #PuraVida

When Captains Host Captains
August 5, 2026
Unlocking Dream Roosterfish There is no higher honor in the charter business than having fellow professional captains step aboard to fulfill their own bucket-list dreams. We set out at first light with two accomplished captains who, despite their years on the water, had never landed a Roosterfish. With the outgoing tide running out of time, every minute was critical. Captain Jorge executed a brilliant tactical game plan: we ran straight to our furthest southern marks first, creating a rolling strategy to fish our way back toward the coast. The ocean rewarded our calculated positioning almost instantly! The first strike was pure adrenaline—a massive, aggressive Roosterfish attacked so fiercely it rushed two of our lines simultaneously, making us think we had a double-hookup! Shortly after, a second trophy Roosterfish of equal size hit the deck. To round out a perfect session, we shifted to some productive bottom spots for fresh table fish before heading back to port with big smiles and ultimate respect among captains. Daily Log: Service: Early Morning Inshore & Bottom Combo Charter Target Guests: Professional Captains (First-time Roosterfish Hunters) Strategy: Tactical long-range run south, fishing back toward port to maximize tide windows. Total Catch: 2 Trophy Roosterfish (Catch & Release, high-aggression strikes), plus mixed bottom species. Key Highlight: Captain Jorge successfully guiding fellow commercial/charter captains to their bucket-list Roosterfish trophies using high-level tidal positioning. #Roosterfish #CostaRicaSportfishing #CaptainsChoice #HerraduraBeach #CatchAndRelease

No hiding the reality
August 2, 2026
A tough morning turned into an afternoon victory There’s no point in hiding the truth—the ocean doesn't guarantee results just because a spot produced yesterday. During our morning half-day session, we hit our proven marks and pushed even further into high-probability zones, but the fish simply refused to bite. Rather than accepting defeat, we adapted. For the afternoon run, Captain Peligro teamed up with a local captain to execute a bold strategy shift, moving our entire search completely to the north. The ocean answered immediately. The action erupted, leading to a friendly showdown against the other boat where our deck claimed the ultimate victory: landing two explosive Roosterfish and two hard-fighting Amberjacks. It was a masterclass in local collaboration, tactical movement, and relentless determination! Daily Log: Service: Split Half-Day / Afternoon Pivot Charter Strategy: Morning scouting in southern marks (low activity); tactical shift to northern territory in the afternoon. Total Catch: 2 Trophy Roosterfish (Catch & Release), 2 Amberjacks. Key Highlight: Captain Peligro collaborating with local expertise to pivot strategy mid-day, completely reversing a slow morning into a high-adrenaline afternoon victory against a companion vessel. #MathisOceanAdventures #Roosterfish #Amberjack #CostaRicaFishing #HerraduraBeach #NeverGiveUp #PuraVida

Saving the Day:
August 1, 2026
From Last-Minute Rescue to Inshore Victory There is nothing worse for an angler than having their long-awaited charter canceled or abandoned at the last minute. Lately, we've taken on the duty of stepping up to rescue these broken illusions—and turning them into unforgettable days at sea. When a stranded group reached out to us, we immediately prepped the Mathis, loaded extra live bait, and set out on a full-day mission to make things right. The start was tough. With flat conditions and scarce bait during the first hour, time was ticking. We made a swift tactical call and relocated further south, hunting for marked current changes. The shift paid off instantly! The ocean erupted with incredible inshore action, giving us three hard-fighting Roosterfish and a powerhouse Amberjack that put on a serious show. We even had a wild double-strike on two baits simultaneously! To wrap up a relentless 4-hour strategy, we secured fresh fish for the dinner plate. Mission accomplished: trust restored and coolers filled! Daily Log: Service: Full-Day Emergency Rescue Charter (4 Hours) Technique: Live Baiting & Tactical Relocation South Total Catch: 3 Roosterfish (Catch & Release), 1 Amberjack, plus edible bottom species secured for dinner (Multiple wild double-strikes). Key Highlight: Stepping in at the last minute to save a stranded group's trip, pivoting south after a slow first hour to deliver high-adrenaline Roosterfish action and table fish. #MathisOceanAdventures #Roosterfish #Amberjack #CostaRicaFishing #LastMinuteRescue #HerraduraBeach #PuraVida
