Wasn't easy but filled the morning with action using popping corks and live shrimp fishing one to three feet of water between solid rain events in POC. The guys ended up with a good take of three redfish and a black drum for the table. They released a few fish voluntarily and then a few broke off too. Great morning on the water with less angler traffic due to the storms. Get ready for a great Fall

Today’s couple on their first anniversary celebrating by going fishing and now that’s a recipe for a long happy marriage! Morning started off slow, but absolutely gorgeous light north wind low humidity gateway to a gentle northeast breeze. We enjoyed a bite until around 10 AM when it shut down had to throw back oversized speckled trout and we popped a couple of redfish off, but managed three solid redfish-two of which were tournament quality fish 27 inches and 26 inches. We are on a increasing moon in fact, the super moon next week with a bull tide, a full pond, a strong Northeast wind and water everywhere. Normally dry ponds and creeks are flooded at the moment with fresh salt water coming off of the Gulf being pushed by the typical bull tides of the season. There are a few things that high water causes-the first and foremost it scatters the fish but also pushes the redfish up into areas they don’t normally get to forage so the guys that can get to them in the super skinny boats are enjoying some fantastic pulls while the others of us have been scrambling a little bit finding a bite here and there! black drum and redfish have been good for the taking and good for the table and seem to be re-energized by the cooler water and the change of seasons.

Sat 9/26 – Seadrift I hosted two gentlemen from Central Texas on a last-minute trip, and we went out with one simple mission: catch whatever would bite. And boy, did we! These guys weren’t out for a meat haul — this trip was about the experience. We loaded up with three dozen live shrimp and four dozen croaker before heading out under a cool, calm Saturday morning sky. A northeast wind slowly gave way to a southern breeze, as is typical here after a front. The water had a little off-color tint, but it was definitely fishable. No major freshwater inflow from the Guadalupe, so the northern country looked perfect. The only thing missing early was the fish’s appetite — the morning bite was quiet. But today wasn’t about numbers. And then it happened. Everything you could imagine came to play: ladyfish, alligator gar, redfish, speckled trout, stingray and just about everything in between. The guys were totally relaxed, soaking it in, reminding me that sometimes it’s less about quantity and more about the quality of time on the water. Later, a buddy told me about his own trip — his crew scratched out a decent box of black drum with a few specks for the table — so it sounds like everyone on the water was finding a little success. The redfish prove to be the king of the PULL most of the time of year down here on the Middle Texas Coast, more specifically, the Port O'Connor and Seadrift areas. Lures, Shrimp, Crab, Mullet, Croaker are all taking the spotlight as the Summer days lead into our 'Autumn' and Fall times of the year. The water is higher now and will continue to push inland until the Fronts begin to blow it offshore gradually as we move Fall to Winter. This past Saturday I guided a family of 3 from Victoria on an afternoon charter and the bite worked from early afternoon to around 4pm then shut down. You never know when exactly they are biting but it's fun to go figure it out!
