The winds laid down some, and i switched gears. I grabbed dead bait just in case, but i went a different direction with speckled trout on my mind. These are longtime customers of mine, and i know they are down to work for the fish. We tied on artificial baits under a cork, and away we went. We found good moving water with a little bit of bait, and that was a wrap.

With the winds still blowing down here and no live bait to be found, we stuck to what we have been doing, hitting small ponds that we can barely fit it. Its been working to say the least. We hit it hard this fay with these phenomenal ladies, and they gave it their all and it paid off for them.

This guy calls me up while he's in town and wants to fish regardless of the weather. The winds are howling 20mph plus, but the tides are rising, and i know a few places to duck out the wind. We found a few ponds that had just enough water to get into and went to work. Throwing dead shrimp under a cork was the go-to for sure. There's nothing better to me than to leave as a unit and come back in as a unit. Capt. Mike and myself have been working together now for over 12 years. We work together as a team from the time we leave the dock until we return back to the dock. In constant contact on the VHF radio, we communicate very well discussing things like water clarity, water movement, amount of bait in each area and when one person get on fish, the other boat will be there shortly! Team work makes the dream work out here for sure.

The spring is springing and the fish are gathering up for their usual patterns. The redfish are bunching up and the sheepshead are stacked for their spawn. The speckled trout are moving in the rite direction as the shrimp are starting to show face in a big way.

As the temps start to rise in the south, so do the water temps. The magic number here in Shell Beach, Louisiana, is 58 degrees. We catch trout and reds in 40 degree and above, but for that harder fighting and faster action, 58 degrees and up is what im looking for. They come oout of the deeper bays and holes after day break and hit the shallow flats to warm up from the night temps. We dont have live shrimo at the marinas rite now, but when you put a matrix shad swim bait under a cork, it's hard to resist.
