Fresh North Vancouver Fishing Reports

Matthew and Jacob were experienced anglers from England and they were well versed in carp fishing but they were up for some new fishing challenges so the booked a trip and came out to the New World to try out B.C.'s excellent sturgeon fishing with Fraser Legends Fishing. The day started pretty typical for summer sturgeon fishing with the tide slowing down the river in the afternoon and the fish kinda dozy with very soft bites. Then two fish were hooked in short order with one doing a self release just as Jacob got it to the boat. A second fish followed only to cross one of the other lines and also do a self release. Finally, late in the afternoon and well into "injury time" Jacob called out the "Hail Mary Rod" as we were pulling up the lines to end the day, when in fact the Hail Mary rod took a dip and Jacob set the hook. After a great breach an epic battle took place with Jacob showing fine form and somewhat huffing and puffing to get the beast to come to heal. Eventually, Jacob with help from dad got the fish under control and the fine photo opportunity resulted. Tight Lines!

Chris, Virginia, Lindsay and Luke booked on a 4 hour sturgeon tagging trip and managed to catch a sturgeon named Walter! This was Walter's 5th encounter with Fraser Legends Fishing and as the largest fish of the day and he had grown over the 3 years we've been tracking him. First captured on August 18, 2023 at nearly the same location he had grown several centimeters and was in great shape. The Team showed up on a bright sunny August morning ready for fishing action. Luke even brought his own rod and when he wasn't manning a sturgeon rod was persistently out with his own rod trying to catch fresh bait. Lindsay got to experience some "Sturgeon Love" by feeling the rod tug and of course take this great photo! Congrats to Team Iowa for a great tagging adventure. I'ld have you back on my boat any day. Greyson came out from New York for his second summer trip with Fraser Legends Fishing. We hit the tides just right on the first day with 5 fish tagged. Two days later the fishing was tougher with a change in the tide and of course, the south west summer winds but he still landed two more nice fish!

Abba, Sol and Trev booked a spur of the moment trip for their last day in Vancouver and we headed out for a four hour trip. They were patient as we had to wait for the right tide and the bite to start. The first two fish were great starters and as often happens in July the bite went soft till the tide swung the current. A few missed bites and it looked like we were done but we were just about to pull up the last rod when it hammered down and the tilt was on! This fish went through all three of them. What was even more exciting was that it was Sol's first fish ever! What a way to start a fishing career!

Four adventuresome ladies from the USA decided to try something different for their annual summer re-union adventure. They booked a great round of golf in the morning in North Vancouver and then came on board for the afternoon tide swing and sturgeon bite. Two fish came on board for measurement, tagging and release early on in the trip. Then there were a couple of missed bites and it was looking slim to being able to add to our fish roster. Luckily then rod #4 just hammered down at the last minute and the battle took all four to hang onto the rod at some time.with help to make sure no-one was pulled overboard! After 30 minutes we managed to get it to shore for a tag scan, measurements and a quick photo shoot. Then it was high 5s for a great fishing adventure and a contribution of valuable data to our fisheries science program!

Art, Tomi, Ollie, Josh and Benji set out from Australia this April to spend some time in Whistler testing the ski runs and then coming out to the Fraser River to find and battle with the Great White Sturgeon. They set some personal and family World Record Catches and here are just a few shots of their adventures. Each of them had a chance to do battle but the last fish of the first day at 199 cm (78 inches or 6.5 ft) proved to be endurance test of the day. The fish tried a few tricks, starting with some good head shakes and then a sleeper run pretending to be a small one but then it took a rod bending run that looked like it was going to do in the tackle. Eventually Ollie prevailed and the family photo op smiles says it all. They were a fun crew to have on board and hope they make another trip up from Down Under soon! Tight lines.
