? TD Coastal Adventures – Fishing Report ? The Hump – Lower Section, Campbell River BC ?️ July 15, 2025 ? Target Species: Chinook Salmon ? Lure: Custom No Bananas Spoon ? Depth: 195 ft ? Zone: The Fish Highway ⸻ Report: The Fish Highway was firing today off the lower section of The Hump, and two seasoned guests — Oleg and Igor from Toronto — made it count in true TD Coastal fashion. Both Chinook strikes came on a custom “No Bananas” spoon running deep at 195 ft, dialed in tight just above the shelf. These were classic Campbell River fish — aggressive, thick-bodied, and built for battle. Igor was up first, locking into a deep-running slab that gave him a full 20-minute slugfest before surfacing. After an epic fight, he chose to release the Chinook with full respect — a true West Coast moment. Oleg followed with a war of his own. Four hard runs and deep dives later, he brought his fish to the boat clean, calm, and earned. Both strikes hit within the same hour — clear sign that the Chinook are staging deep and tight on the bait lanes. The key takeaway today? ? Fish deep. Troll slow. Stay on the seam. And if you’ve got a No Bananas spoon — use it. If not, book with Captain Dan and I’ll bring one. ⸻ Current Notes: • Bait balls showing tight to bottom in 180–210 ft • Best bite time: 7:30–9:15 AM • Tide swing: Moderate flood tide • Water clarity: Good • Wildlife seen: Eagles, porpoises, and one curious seal ⸻ Captain’s Note: “This wasn’t just a good day — it was a day the sea remembers. Oleg and Igor brought patience, power, and respect. That’s what Chinook fishing on the coast is all about.” — ? Now Booking: Chinook runs continue strong through late July. ? Sunset Big Fish, Morning Missions, and Salmon & Seals charters available. ? **hidden content** |

Almost all of the boats appear to be smaller, so be prepared for some chop. Also, the water temp and breezes are both cold. Dress in layers and waaaay warmer than you think. Waterproof gear is recommended if the seas are up

We had a slow day, but the conditions were great and the scenery was beautiful! Bring snacks, more warm clothes than you think you might need, comfy shoes and a sense of humour!

I don't mean to downgrade and rate a 4-star but I wish I could rate it 4.5 because it was a really good trip but to get a 5-star (great) rating, it would mean we all got our limits on our preferred target fish. Unfortunately the weather prevented that. What can you do...

Fun trip, I wouldn’t arrive much early as the run is just getting ramped up mid June. If possible try and time your arrival between tribal and commercial netters. Friendly laid back town.

It's important to note that fishing doesn't always lead to catching. We were very lucky to have such great guides to get us on the fish. Nanaimo is a great spot where you can get on the fish without having to go on and hour long boat ride.

Dress warm, and bring wet weather gear not just in case of rain but also the sea spray! If you have kids with you bring things to keep them entertained that are also weather resistant!

Fishing in June can be unpredictable. Weather is often non-compliant and travelers should expect both sunny days and/or rain. Depending on the weather, fish can often be in motion and difficult to pin down. Expect to travel to many spots and see a lot of different species.

Great family trip. We had 3 adults and 5 kids. Bradan was very welcoming and knowledgeable. He changed the booking based on our needs and gave us all a great tour on the water. We were able to harvest a substantial amount of local seafood. We are planning another trip now

Make sure you bring a cooler and Ice if you plan on keeping fish to cook during your stay or bring a way to store and transport it til you get back to your lodging. It is chilly on the water so bring more layers than you are expecting to need. Rain gear would also be a great idea to have on hand if necessary.

This was my first time ocean fishing. Sooke is a great spot as it is near land, extremely scenic, seems to have a healthy fishery, and offers lots of trip options.
