The 2 hour dusk bites trip is perfect to try it out. Wear a top/jacket that can get dirty so it's easier to hold the fish when you catch it. Take lots of pictures and make sure you have layers in case it's windy/chilly.

We actually had to be flexible on time and location due to weather and ocean conditions. Ended up leaving from Sidney and it was calm and beautiful.

We were lucky to have good weather. October is often wet in this area, so be prepared for less pretty weather.

Sooke is a great place for anglers of all ages with or without experience. Also the ocean doesn't have the big swells like in open waters so you'll be less likely to get sea sick.

Don't forget sunscreen and a hat. Prepare for a good time. Don't forget it's fishing, and not catching. Some days you get lucky, other days you gotta put in the work and it still might not come together.

If you have even the slightest desire to go out on the water to fish, stop thinking and book. Every member of my family had a blast (very different kids). The guide makes all the difference. Worth the drive to Sooke early in the morning!
