Summer is the slower part of the season so if possible book a longer trip to give more time

Know what fish is available and butting in what months so you go in the correct amount to catch what you want.

Most boats are not at docks. You will take a water taxi so your feet will get wet. Make sure you have water shoes or are willing to go barefoot on a rocky beach.

Use Gitana! Tell them you're a novice and ask to practice proper use of the reel beforehand. It is a bit of an art to keep a large fish in the hook.

Be open to bottom fishing to increase your chances of success. We had some success trolling, but bottom fishing was much more successful.

The weather tends to be nice in early May. Low chances of rain, especially during the mornings. It's not usually too windy, so not very choppy. There's mahi to be had at this time of the year, though they tend to be on the smaller size. You can go chase yellow-tail, but it might be too far offshore for a half-day trip, so if yellow-tail is your target I'd go for a full-day trip. Bring lots of sunscreen and sun protection (long sleeve shirt, hat, sunglasses)

Be prepared for the heat, and follow the captains advise. You can’t change what is biting and what is not.

Be prepared for a workout on a yellow fin tuna. Much harder than I expected but worth the all the effort!

The sun is bright and the weather is beautiful. Message the captains before booking and understand what style of fishing they do, such as trolling, jigging, stick baits, drifting live bait. I like to have options and a captain that is willing to switch things up as conditions might dictate,

Its hot.... sun protection and cooling off in cold water is essential. Be prepared for the hours of trolling

Take the time to get to know the local captains. They know where the fish are!

Great time for rooster , snapper and mahi although bill fish bite coming on a little early too. Blame that on al gore I guess.

Full day is best to get out as far as you need to fish for the big fish. Bathe yourself in sunscreen!

These excursions are not for the hardcore fishermen types who want to do everything, i.e., bait the hooks, throw the lines out, etc.,

Do your research. Read and write honest reviews and keep a positive attitude! It is a beautiful experience!!

We also cruised out to Pacific ocean for deep sea fishing. Waves were gentle and the ride was smooth.

Bring plenty of sunscreen and if possible bring a hand towel to wipe your hands when you get fish juice on them! Don't eat a big breakfast before going out, because the head on some boats aren't like what you'd find at a 4-Seasons resort! And if the bite is on, you'll be dead tired by the end of the day!!
