Fresh Calheta Fishing Reports

Steve has fished 4 days big game with us. Day one we hooked into a blue marlin cleared all the lines and started to back down. After 10mins the fish shook the hook so we put all lines out again. Within 10 mins we had a lovely big spearfish come into the spread all lit up and it followed our lure for 3.5 mins knocked the lure out of the clip and then swam away. Very exciting but no catch today. Day 2 started with a nice mahi mahi in the morning then just before lunch a brilliant take and marlin on …. Reel screamed away and the fight was on. A half hour fight brough a 500lb marlin to the boat. Well done Steve a fathers day marlin!!! Later that afternoon we had a double strike and 2 nice mahi mahi. Day 3. Very quite out in the water no strikes at all. Day 4 and Steves ? we left the harbour set of the lures and just 10 mins in a big strike!!!! Marlin on this time a much bigger fish. And it jumped and ran 9 times before we managed to get it to the boat. We safely released an 800lb marlin! Happy Birthday Steve ?

First hook up of the 2025 season for Flipper II lovely blue marlin hit left long and the reel screamed away. We quickly cleared all the lines and with our angler in the chair we started the fight. 5 minutes into the fight the fish turned and shook the hook. Shame this was only a three hour trip and with more time we may well have hooked up again. We saw plenty of life out there today. The season is starting!!

Two half day big game fishing trips today. This morning a lovely wahoo was landed by our french customers and this afternoon deapite trying the wahoo did not hite but we did see the first mahi mahi which is a great sign as thats marlin food. The water temperature is upto 20 degrees and rhe latest news is the first blue marlin was landed off of Funchal today.

So today we had a soace this afternoon so decided to go and have a go ourselves. We had only been out 40mins when we got a bite. Played it stand up and soon we had another wahoo onboard. Out again tomorrow with customers so fingers crossed for more fun

So a half day big game fishing trip for our honeymoon couple chris and samantha. On meeting them this morning i told them that every honeymoon couple we had ever taken had always landed a good fish. Maybe i shouldnt have said anything till later but the fish Gods didnt let us down and they landed one spectacular wahoo and we lost another one. Making the happy couple ? ? ?

Today after the storms we have been battling coloured water and drifting debris. On board Flipper today we did not get lucky with the bites but signs the fish are arriving were there. Another boat hooked and lost a good tuna and tuna have been seen busting inshore. Also a couple of spearfish were also hooked today we will be back out there trying again tomorrow
