Fresh Fort Lauderdale Fishing Reports

It’s not always easy some days the fish just don’t want to bite. Started the morning with trolling planers for wahoo tuna mahi king fish and sailfish. We tried a couple bottom spots that produced some snappers and porgy. On the way home we landed some tunas all 5 lines when off at once and it was on. Turned into a successful day just got to be patient and eventually something works out.

Great day to end off thr grouper season. Solid 15 lb black and some red snapper to end the day.

Season is off to a good start with a few SAILFISH starting to show up! Cold fronts are moving the fish to the South as temperatures drop. Live bait offers a good advantage to seeing a sailfish as well as other pelagic fish. Kite fishing will be the go to method on windy days and slow trolling will suffice on calmer, no wind days. Sailfish can run a minimum of 6ft in length and offer the angler the flight of his life! Long runs, drags peeling line and fish exploding through the surface are what's to be expected while battling a billfish. Concerned of motion sickness? It happens sometimes but if you take a motion sickness medication (over the counter) the night before and the morning of your charter then you stand a good chance to skip on the sickness. FYI. **Fort Lauderdale Charter Fishing Report: Aboard the Marlin, My Darling** This week, aboard the Marlin, My Darling, we're navigating the winds and choppy seas that have characterized the past couple of weeks in Fort Lauderdale. Fortunately, the fishing has been rewarding, with mahi-mahi, sailfish, and sizable blackfin tuna making their presence known. While trolling along the reef has seen some slower action, we've still encountered smaller Bonitas and the occasional wahoo. A few nice-sized blackfin tuna and skipjacks, along with mahi-mahi, have also been caught, typically in waters ranging from 100 to 400 feet just beyond the reef. Kite fishing has truly shined, especially under windy conditions. Large trophy sailfish, mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, and even some sizable game sharks have been caught, making it a favorite winter fishing method. On the downside, bottom fishing has been quieter, though there has been a notable presence of smaller snappers around some shipwrecks. Noteworthy catches included a 35-pound black grouper and a couple of amberjacks from the deeper wrecks. Offshore, mahi fishing has been sparse due to a lack of debris and fish activity. However, December brings anticipation, as it's typically a productive month. The post-Christmas period is our peak season, so we encourage you to book your charter early. December is here and were seeing alotnof African ponpano around the reef and wrecks offshore. No giants yet but soon they will be here ! Also some mackerel, mahi, and tuna around.

Wahoo! The fastest fish in the ocean? That's what the say and it's easy to see why. The wahoo are known for their ambush style attacks and high speed runs on the reel. This time of year we are seeing them around the reefs and drop offs. It's also common to catch them near the anchored freighter ships that have been in place for several days. The ships cast a huge shadow, create an eddy in the oceans current and also provide shelter for bait fish. Live bait is not needed for wahoo. Not that they won't eat it but the majority of the wahoo i catch are by trolling. High speeds are also not necessary as you'll tend to exceed the speeds of other fish such as tuna or mackerel. 6 knots is just plenty for wahoo and the rest of the bunch as well.
