Infrared it good not great because of the weather only. Two days before it was magic, while on our day the weather gods thought we were such good fisherman that we needed a challenge :-) ie. 20mph winds and 3-5ft seas. But that’s just fishing in the Keys…

Don't be as stubborn as I was about specifically targeting Tarpon. We could have filled the cooler with delicious Mangrove Snapper in no time but I was dead set on catching a Tarpon. But if I had to do it again I wouldn't change a thing. I got to fish and hang out with tremendous guy who knows so much about the Floridian environment that I was truly amazed.

If you're after big game species in the flats (like Tarpon) wait until the spring. We targeted Mangrove snapper, porgies, jacks, and goliath grouper and were successful across all species. We fished local bridges and jetties, so it was a very smooth trip! I think it's a great place to go if you're just getting into charters, as you dont have to travel far from the ramp, you can always see land, and its so shallow I dont see it ever being super rough!
