Absolutely. I’ve bottom fished a lot overseas, but never in Florida or anywhere else in the USA. Sheer numbers of fish the boat caught was impressive. Lots of throwbacks, but everyone had fun and went home with fish.

If you’re wanting to catch mahi-mahi, go in May at the earliest. Your captain and his first mate will be very knowledgeable so just ask all the questions, they’ll answer them!

Come prepared. We packed rain gear but didn’t use it. Was able to duck into the cabin when it rained on us. We were hooked up on a fish and the person fighting it didn’t bring any rain gear and got drenched. They didn’t miss a crank on the reel with the excitement of having a fish on.

Day fishing after a full moon is not recommended. However my window of opportunity was only open enough for a day trip. Although slow, we still found plenty of fish that wanted to bite. The seas were relatively calm and crystal clear. When around the reef you can see straight to the bottom. Great experience for first time anglers!
