Weather stopped us from salmon fishing on lake Michigan, but we were still able to fish for fresh water drum on the smaller lake (forgot the name). Disappointed we couldn't bring some fish home to eat, but that's not the captain's fault.

Powderhorn Sportfishing
Holland is a great port with a short channel and great views. The marina is easy to get to, parking is easy.
I would not fish anywhere else in West Michigan than Holland myself.

My Captain says fishing in May (and April) are the best time if you want to be catching and not just fishing. It seems that Salmon is a bit harder to time, but Lake Trout seem abundant in May. We like Lake Trout, so it is not a disappointment.

If you're concerned with motion sickness, this was a great 3-hr trip with no problems with motion sickness. Also, we had 8, 10, and 12 year olds who loved this charter.

We were told that June can be a very hit or miss month. The previous dayโs trip ended with 0 caught and we ended ours, less than 24 hours later, with 8.

This was very different fishing than I expected but still enjoyable. The captain and first mate did 90+% of the work by setting up the rods and getting them in the water. With multiple rods in the water, we trolled along waiting for a hit. Once a fish was on, whoever's turn it was reeled it in. When it was close to the boat, the crew used a net to get it directly from the water into the cooler.
