Fresh Lauderdale Marina Fishing Reports

We took susan and her grandkids fishing, we set out put a kite up suspended some live baits from the kite. Then put out some livebaits on some flatlines. And they starting coming hooked and caught a single, then a double. Then another single and at the end of the trip hooked another double sailfish and they got wrapped up and cut eachother off after a lot of jumps!

Fishing has been great this week from the surface to the seafloor. We are catching sailfish, tuna, and even a random mahi every now and then fishing live baits on light tackle spinning gear. And the bottom fishing for snapper, grouper, and jacks has been good action this week.

It was a bit slow the beginning of February but just like a light switch it has turned on. The live bakt bite for sailfish has been outstanding, the bottom fishing for snapper and grouper, amberjack, and African pompano is also great.

The sailfish are passing thru Fort Lauderdale this week the bite is hot, kite fishing with live baits and trolling ballyhoos has been the best way to hook up. These fish like the the cooler weather and windy days they seem to bite better. Trolling planers for wahoos, fishing the deep wrecks has been good for amber jacks and groupers also. Some nicer size tunas are also starting to show up early so thats nice to see. Mahi mahi have been limited just a few around but they should start showing up for the spring.

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here this week we have a great report for you. We will start off this week with the theme which is bottom fishing, as of late there has been a surplus of deep water snapper species like yellow eye snapper, vermillion snapper, and blackfin snappers right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. We have been catching these snappers on deep water structures like shipwrecks and live bottom as deep as 400 foot. Cut pieces of bait works best on a multiple hook rig like a chicken rig. I prefer to use bonito for bait over anything else because of the durability of the skin. it will stay on the hook when you get a few bites unlike squid or other softer baits, these snappers are not picky the key to being successful when deep water snapper fishing is finding them. If you can find them you will catch them! All these deep water snappers are great eating but one thing I would like to mention is that this is a condition related fishery as in they don't bite everyday, currents and winds play a big part in this type of fishing and if it doesn't all aline correctly its usually not even worth trying. Other then snappers this week we are just starting to see some amberjacks on some of the deep water ship wrecks, live bait is going to be key to entice a hard fighting amberjack. The troll this week has been somewhat slow we have been having some dirty water the last few days and most pelagic fish are not a fan of that, we did just have a front pass us so the slow fishing we had should pick up right away. Im expecting big things coming up this week should see some great sailfish action more large amberjacks on wrecks and maybe a showing that spring is to come with some larger tunas in the mix. Had scott and his buddy out from Indiana, fishing wasnt red hot but we got quality over quantity. And thats just how fishing goes sometimes, we started out drifting with a kite out and some live baits out and hooked a sailfish on a live bait in the kite and while fighting that fish another one ate one of the flatline baits down current of the boat. So after we successfully released both sails a 12-15 pound mahi ate a flatline livebait. What we like to call Dinner and a show!
