Trip Summary
Despite December being one of the rainiest months of the year in this region, today completely surprised us with a gorgeous, sunny afternoon and excellent fishing action.
We ended the day with a solid catch:
2 beautiful jaguar bass (guapotes tigre) – both strong fighters
1 big female rainbow bass, thick and full of color
1 solid machaca that put up an epic battle
1 nice mojarra to round things out
We rotated through three techniques during the session:
Trolling deep structure and drop-offs
Casting topwater and crankbaits along the banks
Vertical jigging with soft plastics and metal jigs
Funny enough — every single fish came on jigging! The bite was clearly down deep today, and the jigging bite was on fire. The jaguar bass crushed the jigs on the fall, the rainbow bass inhaled it near the bottom, and even the machaca and mojarra couldn’t resist. Total validation for sticking with the jig rod when the other techniques went quiet.
