Trip Summary
Following up on last week's report, the North Shore pattern is holding as we head into November.
Conditions right now off Haleiwa are workable for a Haleiwa fishing charter — trade winds come and go, the ocean settles between swells, and the early morning runs have been the cleanest window for Oahu deep sea fishing. That is prime time for a North Shore fishing charter.
What is biting: mahi mahi and aku — skipjack tuna — are the main action this time of year, with wahoo (ono) and shibi (yellowfin under 100 lbs) in the mix on the troll, plus trevally and bottom fish when we change it up. No guessing on species — if it is blue and white and 1 to 2 feet long, that is aku.
This is why now is the time to book a private fishing charter Oahu anglers keep coming back for. Whale season is also starting — whale watching Oahu runs October through March — and a sunset cruise Haleiwa run is hard to beat after a day on the water. As a Honolulu fishing charter option based on the North Shore, this is Hawaii sport fishing the personal way: one private group, Captain Matt, no crowds.
