One of the most enjoyable aspects of Charlotte Harbor is the continuous rotation of fishing seasons and the cooling waters of January do not disappoint. The Speckled Sea Trout “ a trout in appearance only and is actually a member of the drum family”. Schools of the wonderful eating fish move into the grassy flats of the harbor in mass numbers this month and make for some great light tackle action. On many occasions catching 100 plus fish per trip makes for a great day for the whole family. Fishing for our trout is very much like bass fishing or crappie fishing you would do up north. Casting and retrieving soft plastics and shrimp fished under bobbers are common tactics and easily mastered by the beginner. Sheep’s Head,Flounder,Snook,Redfish,Pompanos and many other species are Also commonplace but for the hottest action over this month don’t miss out on our Specks.
