Nice catches of yellowtail snappers and mutton snappers are biting on our daily drift fishing trips out of Fort Lauderdale. In the winter months, snappers go shallow, so we're finding them on the 40ft ledge, right off the coast. Afternoon and night trips have been best lately, but that is always subject to change each day. Groupers too are biting good. Lots of other small to medium sized fish such as grunts, porgies and triggers are also among our daily catches. A rare kingfish or blackfin tuna may also be on the menu for the day. Great snapper fishing this week on our morning and afternoon trips. Mutton snappers, the largest snappers that we catch here in south Florida, are biting good. September is always a favorite month here for the larger snappers and we get plenty of yellowtail and mangrove snappers biting too. October is another good month for the snapper fishery but September is my favorite. Most action on the mutton snappers is on the day trips, but the yellowtails and mangroves are biting better in the night time. Good luck to everyone out there on our trips this week. It looks like the mangrove snappers are spawning off the coast of Fort Lauderdale this week. Last night we caught over 100 mangrove snappers, plus some other snapper species mixed in. The mangrove snappers bite this good when they are doing their annual spawn. They spawn on the full moons of the summer but it usually doesn't get this good until we get into August and September. This year, it seems they showed up a little early. I love it! The next few days are going to be good night fishing and then we should get a few more runs of them over the course of the next few full moons. Good luck to everyone fishing with us.
