Trip Summary
As we get deeper into summer, the days get longer, and we have arrived to some of the most fun days on the water. Fishing in the mosquito lagoon is great year round. But there is something special about the summer time. Hot, sticky, calm, glassed out mornings, provide some of the best fishing the lagoon has to offer. The past 2 weeks have proven that to be true. We have seen hot days followed but cooling afternoon summer rains. This trend seems to make this redfish happy as the fresh summer rain causes the water temperature to drop just slightly and provides some extra oxygen in to the water. With the pattern we are able to see happy tailing redfish in the morning and happy tailing redfish in the late afternoon into the evening.
Our bait of choice has been the FlatsHQ flats swimmer in both the white and gold pattern. These
4 inch, soft plastic, paddle tail bait has been feeding redfish, speckled sea trout and tarpon in both the North Indian River Lagoon and Mosquito Lagoon. Rigged with a 3/0 weighted weedless hook in grassy area or with a white 1/4 oz jighead in the deeper drop offs of the flats.
