As spring is barreling in full speed ahead, bonito will be here in big numbers soon to really kick things off. These migratory fish are in the tuna family and are some of the best fighting game fish on light tackle. Finding big schools smashing bait on the surface and hearing that draf scream is something you must experience.

Today (2/18/24) we landed upwards of 30 fish, consisting of redfish and black drum. We saw fish ranging from 16in to 30in. All fish were caught using fresh shrimp.

These tiny tuna are here a few weeks early in South East North Carolina. I had a feeling they would be with the Bonito also showing up earlier this spring. Although these False Albacore arent very table worthy, they are one of the best species of fish to hook into with light tackle!
