Trip Summary

We fished the Peck Lake reefs south of St. Lucie Inlet on Dec. 2, despite somewhat lumpy seas. We caught good numbers of Spanish mackerel up to 22 inches using Gulfstream Flash Minnow jigs in white, chartreuse/white and blue/white colors. Only problem: Sharks found out about us and began stealing our hooked mackerel. We spent a fair amount of time retying leaders and jigs. Lots of fun to catch the hard-striking Spanish on light tackle. And I spent the entire next day smoking mackerel...guess that's a good problem to have. --Capt. Willie Howard
