On Saturday, May 4, 2024, a notable catch of an Ono (Wahoo) weighing approximately 20 lbs was reported off the South Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. The Ono is a highly prized game fish known for its speed and fighting abilities, making it a sought-after target for anglers in the region.
The Captain and crew were trolling 15 miles out to sea when they spotted a large bird pile where they picked up a few ono (as seen in the picture) as well as a few Mahi Mahis.
Event Description:
The catch occurred during a fishing expedition in the waters off Oahu's South Shore. The angler, was aboard Mattie, a 47' Cabo Express fishing vessel, accompanied by Captain Jeff.
Upon bringing the Ono onboard, it was measured, and its weight was estimated to be approximately 20 lbs. The fish displayed typical characteristics of a healthy Ono specimen, including vibrant coloration, streamlined body shape, and sharp teeth indicative of its predatory nature.
