Saturday had me running a double. I had a bachelor party on board in the morning for a five hour trip. Due to recent excess winds the weatern basin water was muddied up. We had to run about 15 miles to find water with 18”+ of visibility. We ran 40 TT back 40’ and 35’. Once we found some active fish, we just kept working tbe area. We finished with 24 walleye and headed back for the dock. My next group was a 5 person group for 7 hours that started at 1:00p. On the way out they mentioned they had dinner reservations at 7:00p at a local establishment. Pressure was on, but using the info I gained in the morning, I headed straight back out to where the morning trip finished. This time I was marking fish a little deeper so we ran 40 TT back 45’ and 40’. We finished with a boat limit of 36 walleye at 5:15p and headed back to the dock just in time for them to make thier dinner reservations on time.

Today had me hosting the Adolph family for some father son time. Water temps have increased slightly to 73 degrees. The warmer water temps slowed the bite down a bit. The yellow perch’s main food source right now is the spiney water flea which flourish in water temps between 75-65 degrees. Once the water fleas start dying off the perch bite will only get better. The warmer water temps alonmake it hard to get the preffered bait for yellow perch, which are called emerald shiners. Im currently using “drunken shiners” from last year. We freeze the shiners in vodka which helps preserve the minnow and keeps them from getting mushy when you freeze them. Despite the water fleas and lack of live shiners, we still managed to box 90 perch in five hours.

Today we had Allen along with grandson Phinle aboard. This trip was a birthday present from Allen for his grandsons 13’th birthday. Young Phin was quite the fisherman. After a short amount of time he was dialed in our method of fishing. The fishing was on fire. The water had cleared from the storms caused by hurricane Beryl, allowing to catch our boat limit of walleye in short order. Once we got the walleye gear brokedown, we went out in search of yellow perch for a couple hours to round out the trip.
