Nothing is as Lowcountry as a good “flood-tide” session. “Flood-tides” are above average tides which allow redfish to get up into the normally dry marsh flats and gorge on one of their favorite foods - fiddler crabs! During these large tides redfish can be seen doing headstads in the shallow water while rooting for crabs. While doing so the tails can often been seen sticking completely out of the water thus the term “tailing” redfish. While this a specialized form of fishing, it often feels as though you are hunting for the sights and sounds of feeding redfish. Flagging tails are dead giveway, but sometimes the sign can be much more subtle - such as redfish poppin shrimp or slipping by with just s little of his finns sticking out the water. This is where an experienced guide is worth his weight in gold - a well trained eye can pickout redfish from 100s of yards away. Once a fish is located, the guide will get you as close as possible for the shot/cast. Once within range a well placed cast will typically be rewarded by an agressive eat, followed by a drag-screaming tussle!
