Bass (Smallmouth)
Trip Summary
Trip Summary
Lydia booked trip as a birthday gift for her boyfriend Kevin. Beautiful weather day. Kevin caught the first smallmouth and first 4 of 5 fish overall. He lost a beautiful smallmouth in the 4 lb + range when it jumped and spit the hook. That was an underlying theme today. The bass were finicky biters today and when they did bite the majority of them jumped and came unhooked. Lydia was not to be left out of this story as she hooked up with the largest smallmouth so far this season. It was well over 5 lbs! Another super aggressive fish. She did everything correctly but the bass made a huge jump and the bait was thrown right at Kevin! Lydia also hooked up with a couple other bass but they wound up winning today. Keven was consistent during the day, picking up a fish here and one there. Seeing how Lydia had never caught a fish before, we made a 3 mile run to another spot. A few minutes later she hooked, and landed the biggest fish of the day! Although it was a Gaspergou, it didn’t really matter. The fish fought extremely hard, stripping drag along the way. It weighed in at well over 7 lbs! One heck of a big first fish! Once again i was privileged to meet and spend a day with two of the nicest young people you could ever meet! Great day indeed!
