I have been on more charters than I can count.  However, I would rate this one as the worst for a multitude of reasons.  We ran out of bait more than three times.  I even asked for bait multiple times.  The response back from the captain’s bird nest was, “You are using too much bait.”  REALLY?  Each of my sons told me the captain was rude.  The deck hand was nice but how can you allow your client to run out of bait multiple times?  I had to raise my voice to him.  I even told him,“If you don’t change your tone, you can take us back to shore right now!”  He changed his demeanor but still was not cool. 

We booked a 10 hour trip to go into deeper water (as the website said).  However, we could still see Orange Beach.  So, this let me know we were not over 12 miles out into the Gulf.  After bouncing bait off the bottom, we did catch some Vermilion snapper.  But we kept catching these tiny 1/2 pound fish that were a nuisance.  But, he wouldn’t move us out into deeper water or onto a better spot.  One would think a guide would know the “honey holes”.  But, not this one.  He was either being lazy or just didn’t know better.  We then start trolling for Mackerel.  Mackerel are the easiest fish in the ocean to catch!  Ntm, they do not taste good at all.  I even let the captain & his deck hand know we do not like the taste of Mackerel.  But, onward to troll for Mackerel.  He takes the boat in about 3 miles or so.  We are trolling these FADs.  We would catch a Mackerel about every 30 minutes or so.  Nothing, really impressive about this guide or this trip. 

Ironically, before this trip the captain called me a couple of times to try to move my charter from Tuesday to Friday because snapper regulations only allows for snapper fishing on Friday - Sunday this year.  Now, I know why.  My thoughts are simple: If you are a fishing charter for hire you should be able to put your clients on fish regardless of the day of the week, the week of the month or month of the year.

The only reason I do not rate this “Terrible” is twofold:  I got to go fishing with my sons & the deck hand was nice…
