Our morning trip started slow but turned out Great!
Told our captain I wanted to catch a big Rooster fish & that’s exactly what we did.
First fish of the day was a 53” gorgeous Rooster!

Awesome half day. Look… I had a plan. I wanted bottomfish, and maybe a rooster, and mackerel as our anti-skunk plan. Captain said no bottomfish, for good reasons. It has been bad lately. Good to know. We hit Sierra mackerels first. 11 in one hour, for real. Kept five absolute MONSTERS! Then we each landed a roosterfish, which I thought was fantasy. Amazing fishing. The boat is small, it rocks, it feels minimalist. That’s its own beauty, and added to the experience. Highly recommend. It’s a fisherman journey, not a yacht cruise. We loved it. ❤️

Fantastic morning with Johnny!  His communication a few days before the trip was fantastic. We were on time and Johnny was excellent at dealing with bait rigging and fish landing.  His knowledge of fishing was evident in all areas. We caught 8 fish - mackerel and rooster fish. Saw a few whales!  His equipment all worked great and the boat was very comfortable for the two people fishing.  I would not hesitate to book again and will plan to visit Blue Sea Fishing and Captain Johnny on our next visit to Cabo!  Great day - thanks for the great memories.

This was my second trip with Blue Sea. I am obsessed with deep sea fishing and I may be the the MOST DEMANDING CLIENT for a fishing charter anywhere full stop. I do not mean to be demanding it’s just that deep sea fishing is my greatest passion beyond writing. Unlike the novel length messages I sent to Johnny, I’ll try to keep this to the point.

In my last review, I imploded serious fisherman to get as much bait as possible. Live bait in Cabo is becoming increasingly hard to come by. If you want to catch fish outside of prime season you won’t without bait. All they had at the harbor was dead Bollyhoo. I didn’t follow my own advice because I was so disappointed they were out of live bait. For a solo fisherman, 10 pieces should have been ample but I needed at least 20 as the fish never touched the lures and the marlin bit the bodies off the bollyhoo leaving only the heads. If you’re solo, buy 20 pieces. If you’re with 2, buy 30. Cabo has an amazing catch and release policy for the billfish so they have become good at avoiding hooks (especially on dead bait).

Every captain has their way of doing things. As you head out, no matter how seasoned a fisherman you are, ASK exactly how the captain likes to handle hookups. I made the mistake of adjusting the drag when hooking up with a 100+ lb Wahoo and it broke the line, my heart, and Ceaser’s patience with this demanding gringo. Don’t repeat my mistake. Please.

I had one day to fish at the last day of January. It was still a newish moon so we encountered plenty of marlin and the Wahoo (that got away). I ended up with 2 beautiful roosters and a large Sierra mackerel that gobbled up what remained of the bait at the end of the the full day. I never leave a negative review for a charter if we get skunked because THAT’S FISHING.” The fish cleaners informed me that the only fish they cleaned all day were 2 small tuna, a petite dorado and my Sierra (the meat tastes just like Wahoo).

I have fished with every major premium charter in Cabo. I can tell you now that with the exception of the pricey company Pisces, Blue Sea’s captain works harder than anyone else. He will get fish on the line for you.

Johnny, forgive me for my plethora of messages. It’s only because I love this sport to the point of obsession. You remained courteous when I sent you messages that I am sure came across as ungrateful, entitled and rude. Yet, I have so much respect for you. I have already recommend you to a friend for an upcoming trip. You’re a class act.

Caesar, forgive me for losing that Wahoo. The fact that you were so disappointed only makes me respect you tenfold. Blue sea gets my highest recommendations 10/10. The only other charter that gets that score is Pisces and it’s easily double the price. Thank you for your hard work, keeping your cool and your dedication.

This charter is a great option if you are planning to fish solo! Its a small boat with no washroom (the ladies might not like this point), and most importantly its very affordable. I was guided by Captain Caesar. He speaks minimal English but I was able to make it work.

We started to catch fish within the first hour. I ended up catching 12 fish total: 5 bonitos while trolling (biggest at around 10lbs), 5 roosterfish (biggest at around 16-18lbs while fishing with live bait near shore), and 2 random small fish doing deep jigging.

BONUS!: you will most likely see some whale jumping around! And the Captain will try his best to go closer for the best view

The Captain will take any recommendation you ask him: if you want to catch a specific specie he will try is best to make it happen. I asked for rooster and I got them!

Bring your own water/drinks and food. Definitely ask to buy live baits if you want to catch rooster (extra 20-30$ cash only, its a shady business but it is what it is). A random guy will come at your boat once at sea with large minnows.

All in all great experience with this charter. Affordable, friendly captain, decent small boat with chair (no seatbelts available for monsters, which makes it more fun lol).

Make sure to bring extra cash for live baits (20-30$), fishing license (20$) and tips (if you want).
