The captain and first mate were friendly enough, and asked what we wanted to fish for.  I made it clear that I wanted my 9 year old to catch SOMETHING and I was assured that he would - which is consistent with other charters I’ve experienced.  I was told we’d start out trying for Mahi, and we’d switch to fishing for bait fish, if necessary, for the kids to reel something in.  By the end of the 3 hours, we caught NOTHING.  Not even a nibble.  We never switched to bait fish.  We didn’t change strategy, location, or bait.  Not once.  We did, however, spend 20 minutes detangling fishing lines from the downriggers.  How long did we troll with tangled lines?  That’s anyone’s guess.  I know there are no guarantees in fishing, but to keep trying the same thing the entire time, with no adjustments, after I made it clear I didn’t care WHAT we caught as long as my kid got to catch SOMETHING (even bait fish), is ridiculous. 

Save your $725 (2hr rate plus $200 for an extra hour, tip, and taxes), and book a pleasure cruise instead.  You’ll get the same result with more amenities.
