Had a great time out there .  We had to deal with a little weather but the captain had many spots that he could take us.  We hooked into a monster right off the bat and he got Away from us .  My son pulled in two in one location.  Then as we moved away from the incoming storm , that’s when we hooked into the big one.    The captain went the extra mile to make sure we got this one pulled in.  The fish ripped his pants , his gloves , caught him in the face .  But man was it worth it.  This guy is an expert especially when it comes to tarpon.  If you want to go tarpon fishing and be put in a spot where you have the opportunity to catch 100-200+ lb tarpon.  This is the charter for you

I absolutely recommend booking with Captain Mendez for fishing in Puerto Rico. We had an amazing time with him. Considering all the places someone could possibly fish here, Capt. Mendez took us to a specific spot and got us on fish FAST and reliably. The amount of action was unbelievable, there were bites consistently from all sizes of Tarpon. This was my first time targeting tarpon and I have to say it was epic, he got me up to speed with everything I needed to know about them and already had the boat rigged with the exact gear needed, drinks, and everything else you will need. Within 10 minutes of setting up at the spot we already had our first Tarpon ripping drag and jumping out the water like a movie. I really couldn’t believe it. I have never seen someone get on fish so quick, little did I know the rest of the day would be filled with more extreme Tarpon action. I also didn’t know, but these fish are STRONG, the fight I had with the biggest one we had caught was honestly unbelievable and lasted around 10 minutes. I’m used to bass fishing ponds, and I can tell you this right now. You will be FIGHTING these fish and having the time of your life. You need to book with Capt. Mendez if you are looking to catch some of these beautiful, strong, Puerto Rican Tarpon. He will get you on fish and keep you on them all day. At one point during the day approaching midday, I saw about 5 different charter guides ripping through the water ways past Capt. Mendez spot going back and forth from various spots looking for fish. At that moment, I knew I had the best captain in the area. Almost no time was wasted on finding fish, my whole tour time was FIGHTING & CATCHING Tarpon! Capt. Mendez is also just a great guy, very kind, knowledgeable, and a well seasoned fishermen. I would not put my trust, time, or money into any other guide fishing for Tarpon in Puerto Rico. Have fun!

Had a great morning of fishing for tarpon with Captain Paco. Left the dock promptly at 6a to get to the spot. Set the lines and had the first tarpon on within an hour.  Caught several more over the course of the morning. Lots of action with big fish.  Even caught a mangrove snapper as a bonus fish!  Captain Paco knows the area and has perfected his technique over his 27 years of guiding. Knowledgeable captain, good equipment and big active fish are a good recipe for a great fishing outing. This is exactly what Captain Paco delivers. I will be back soon enough to go after peacock bass.

We did the half day (4hr) trip in the afternoon. Paco is very professional and knowledgeable in not just fishing, but pretty much everything, from current events, world history, politics, eco environments, economics, etc.  No matter your interests, Paco will be able to carry on a great conversation with you in Spanish or English. I wouldn’t doubt if he speaks a few other languages as well😉

Anyways, back to the fishing part. Paco brought my family of 5 to fish two different locations in which we caught multiple Tarpon at both locations. Puerto Rico has the best Tarpon fishing in the world, and the places Paco brings you to proves it!! You will never have the opportunity to catch so many 30+ to 150+ pound fish in such a short amout of time anywhere in the world in my opinion.

So in our 4hr trip with Paco, 3.5hrs of lines in water we landed 4 Silver King Tarpon into the boat, biggest was a 70lb King. We had multiple strikes and misses, but the highlight was the one we couldn’t even land. We hooked two 150+ lb Tarpon, over 6 feet long (they jumped multiple times) and one we fought until he started to spool us so fast we had no time to pull in the other rods and anchers to chase him down so we had to pull him loose on a jump. Be prepared to catch one of these “Godzilla’s” as Paco calls them, decide ahead of time if your going to want to try and land when you hook one cuz (might be a 2hr-3hr fight) all other rods need to be pulled in as you will have to chase him with the boat like Jaws😀

All in all, my family will remember Paco’s fishing trip for ever as it was the highlight of our trip to Puerto Rico and the cost was priceless, literally, he’s got the cheapest prices I could find. I told him that, and he said he’d rather be cheaper and have volume and spend the time in the water with customers. Smart business!😉
