The fishing itself was good, don’t get me wrong. However, it was frustrating that the captain’s family was onboard and appeared to take the best fishing spots. In my opinion, paying guests should be given first choice of positions. Because of how things were handled, lines frequently got tangled, which took away from the overall experience.

Hi Kathryn,

I was quite surprised to receive your review, so I wanted to take a moment to clarify a few things.

All guests on board that day were regular customers of our shared fishing trips. While most happened to be Asian, they are not family members or a private group. As with all sharing trips, fishing spots are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Throughout the trip, I made an effort to assist you and your husband by helping with baiting hooks and removing fish. I also prepared some fresh snapper sashimi for you to try, which is not normally included as part of a shared trip service.

If you feel that this level of service still did not meet your expectations, we would recommend booking a private charter next time, where the experience can be more tailored to your needs.

We live in California but fish all over, and were pleasantly surprised with how much fun we had on a quick 1/2 day charter. Captain Michael was great and put us on the fish pretty quickly. Its a beautiful run out to the fishing grounds as well. I was even able to land a King Fish on some light tackle…super fun! We had a cooler full at the end of the afternoon we were able to donate to the wonderful folks at The Kai Ika Project. Absolutely recommend this charter company.

Four hour trip. About 45 minutes to fishing spot where bite was on immediately and never stopped. We didn’t need to move . Four of us caught over 75 fish, mostly snapper under 30cm, several over. Plus some mackerel, a JT and a yellowtail. A lot of fun and captain worked hard keeping us baited and taking our fish off.

Michael & Isabella are amazing hosts. We came from Sydney to try the famous fishing in NZ and they delivered. The spot they took us to had an abundance of snapper, every cast was a bite! On top of that, Michael was very knowledgable and helpful. We recommend anyone who wants to geniunely catch a lot of fish to go with them!
