The boat was nice, the crew was friendly, the transportation was on time and the coordinators were all very informative. We caught 4 mahi mahi in a very short timespan. All in all this had the makings of a very pleasant experience. Only one major problem… there were 5-10’ swells the ENTIRE time we were out on the boat. I’ve done a number of open water fishing charters, as have other members of our party. I own two boats and am no stranger to rough waters. This was something else entirely. Everyone in our party took dremamine well before the trip and took additional medication as soon as it started. We weren’t hungover. We weren’t sick from anything else. Within the first 30 minutes the first person in our party got sick and started vomiting. Then another, and another until half the party was vomiting and the rest felt like they were going to. You couldn’t stand or walk without having to hold on for dear life. You couldn’t sit or lay down without becoming overwhelmed by the rocking of the vessel. I strongly feel that the conditions in which we had our charter are NOT suitable for anyone other than professional fishermen that endure these elements every day. Again, I have done this before on numerous occasions and this was FAR WORSE conditions than I’ve ever experienced. After only about 90 minutes of this, we couldn’t take it anymore and asked to be taken back. Some of the people in our party felt nauseated for hours afterwards. It’s a hell of a story, but honestly it was a pretty traumatic experience for some of our party and probably discouraged them from ever fishing open waters again. Anecdotally, when we got back to the hotel we learned that a number of other charter companies had cancelled all of their bookings for that day and the following day. This was disappointing because I sincerely feel that our booking should have been postponed or refunded due to the water conditions. I really want to give this company a good review because, again, the boat, crew, transportation and coordination was all top notch! Captain Francisco was very nice, but they seemed completely unbothered by the fact that clearly none of us were having a good time. They did provide a few of the people vomiting with cold water and napkins. Anyway, I would recommend this company to others but make absolutely sure that the waves and water conditions are something you’ll be comfortable with before committing to go out. They will not postpone it for you as I think they should have. So go at your own risk. Also keep in mind you don’t get any refunds for coming back early.
